Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, April 28, 1955 " lone Club lo Buy Equipment For City Park By Echo Palmateer The Arnica club met at the home of Mrs. Earl McKinney Wednesday April 2n with Mrs. John Proudfoot as co-hostess. The club voted to purchase a table and benches for the city park. After the meeting court whist was played. Mrs. Robert Jepsen received the door prize. Bridge and pinochle were played at the social meeting of the Topic club Saturday April 23 at the Charles Carlson home with Mrs. Charles O'Connor and Mrs. Cleo Drake as co-hostesses. 'Those winning prizes in bridge were Mrs. Mabel Cotter, high; Mrs. A. Shirley, low and Mrs. Mary Swan son, Jack high. In pinochle Mrs. Victor Rietmann, high; Mrs. Fan nie Griffith, low and Mrs. Wil liam Rawlins, 300 pinochle. Mrs. Hershal Townsend enter tained the Three Links club of Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge at her home Friday of last week with a potluck dinner at noon. The club planned a clean-up day at the cemetery May 21 and a potluck dinner at noon at the Rebekah hall. This will be a community project. They, alo, planned a food and pie and coffee sale at their hall May 6 from 10 a. m. Mrs. David Baker and children are, staying at the Henry Gorger home in Pendleton while Mr. and Mrs. Gorger and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Gorger are in the. east. Mrs. Dora Pierrot of Portland is visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Franklin Ely. The American Legion. Several members will attend the lunch eon in Heppner Monday April 25 in honor of Mrs. Mane Wilcox, department president. After the meeting games were played and Mrs. Tad Miller and Mrs. Echo Palmateer received prizes. Mrs. Vida Heliker was recom mended as district deputy presi dent at the meeting of the Bunch grass Rebekah lodge Thursday evening. The members of the lodge voted to give $5 to the cancer fund. After the meet ing refreshments were served by Mrs. Mary Swanson, Mrs. Adon Hamlett and Mrs. Wallace Mathews. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cannon gave a dinner Wednesday evening, April 20 in honor of Mrs. Hazel Beers. Others present were Mm and Mrs. Ted Palmateer and children and Mrs. Echo Palma teer. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Crawford and Rollo Crawford visited Pfc. and Mrs. Clyde Crawford at Rich land, Wash., Sunday. The St. Williams Altar Society met at the home of Mrs. Mabel Cotter Thursday evening April 21. She was assisted by Mrs. David Baker. They decided to repair the roof on the church. Mr. and Mrs. Dorr Mason and son John, of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundell of Mil wapkie were, visitors here over the weekend. Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom gave a party Thursday afternoon in honor of the 76th birthday of Mrs. Anna Lindsrom at the Anna Lindstrom home. Others present were Mr. Lindstrom and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Algott Lundell, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Lundell, Mrs. E. R. Eldred Corson of Victorville, Calif., and son of Mrs. Delia Cor son, was one of the five officers of George Air Force Base to re ceive a promotion for the next highest rank. He was a member of the Air force reserve and will receive a reserve commission as Lt. Colonel. He is presently as signed as commander of Flight D 9345 Air Reserve Squadron Head quarters Norton Air Force Base in Calif. He holds the job of Resi dent Auditor General at George A. F. B. Mrs. Ada Cannon of Heppner spent Sunday at the home of her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cannon and at the Delia Cor son home. Mrs. Rena Jenkins spent the weekend in Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. Paul O'Meara returned home last week from The Dalles where she was a pa tient in the hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Lieuallen of Pendleton spent the weekena with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews and daughters and George Ely left Sunday for Salem to visit relatives. Mrs. Elmer Holtz and daughter accompanied them and went on to Coos Bay to visit her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Newton. Guests last week at the Cecil Thome home were Mr. and Mrs, Brooks Ward of Caldwell, Idaho and Mrs. Harold Parker of Clover dale. Those from here who attended the Jasmine Chapter of the East ern Star in Arlington Monday evening April 18 were: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen, Mrs. Omar Rietmann, Mrs. Sam Esteb and George Ely. Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin and children and Mrs. Edith Nichoson attended the spring garden show in Gresham Sun day. They also visited Mr. Mar tin's relatives in West Linn. Mrs. Blance Scheeler of Salem is visiting her daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree. Mr. and Mrs. Loy McFerrin gave a birthday dinner Sunday evening in honor of their son-in-law, Bryce Keene. Others pre sent were Mrs. Keene and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Carston Brand hagen of Spray, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Anderson and son, Kit, Mr. and Mrs. Al Lovgren and Mr. and Mrs. Oral Wright and daughter, Deanne, of Heppner, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Keene, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McCabe and daughter, Kris tine ind Mr. and Mrs. George Snider. Mrs. Ernest McCabe entertained the Junior American Legion Auxiliary girls at her home on Saturday afternoon. They worked on scrap books which will be given to the Pioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner and to hos pitals in Portland for children patients there. Mrs. Dixon Smith returned home last week from a plane trip to Fayette, N. C where she visited her son, 1st Lt. Bruce Smith in the Air Force there.
