Eclio won second and lone the consolation spot. The scores by quarters were: Heppner 10, Irrigon 3 Boardman 6, Umatilla 12 Lexington 3, Echo 6 lone 8, Stanfield 10 Irrigon 15, Boadman 5 Heppner 11, Umatilla 4 Lexington 2, lone 23 Echo 13, Stanfield 11 Consolation round. Irrigon 6, lone 20 Heppner 18, Echo 9. By Larry Mollahan This week with two lamborees and one home game will mark the beginning of basketball sea son for the Heppner Mustangs. The winning of the District CB Championship the last two years will present a challenge to this year's team and their new bas ketball mentor, Larry Bowen. Losing only two staters by graduation last year, Bill Hughes and Jim Green, the Mustangs mis year are at the peak of their power. A large group of seniors are leading the group of twenty-five boys turning out, they are: Dick Kononen, Jerry Haguewood, Lyle Jensen, Neil Beamer, Bob Grabill, and Jim Hayes. A large turnout of juniors included Skip itnui, Del Plper.John Piper, Ed Olson, Vic Groshens, Lowell Turner, Jim Monahan, Lance Tibbies, Vern Keithley. The sophomores showed up with six aspiring players; Dick Applegate, Louie Sayers, Jay Hudson, Roy Hughes, Deane Con nor and Dee Baily, A small group of rooks included Roger Harris, Tim Carr, Jim Morris, and Ed Groshens, Practice sessions began Nov. 15 and continued through Thanks giving vacation so the team could be in good shape. The two jamborees are at Boardman Wednesday night and Arlington Friday night. The first regular game of the season will be against the Stanfield Tigers on the Mustangs home floor Satur day evening. The B game will be at seven. Penney Co. Again Gives Special Bonus NEW YORK, Nov. 29 J. C. Pen ney company, nation-wide depart ment store organization, announ ced today that its directors have authorized a special year-end payment for more than 50,000 associates in the company's 1639 stores, offices and warehouses throughout the United States. The payment will be an amount equal to two weeks' pay Ior all ' f ulltime associates who have been 1 pmnloved for the full year 1954, and proportionate amuumo iui extra and part time associates and those employed less than a year. All Penney associates will share in the payment except manage- 'ment staff members whose earn ings are determined largely by the company's long-standing profit-sharing plan. It will be made December 15 . A meeting was held last Mon day at the school house with Mr. Wilson, band instructor, from Heppner and the parents of the children interested in taking band lessons. The lessons will start on Monday and will be each Monday night from 6:3o until 8 p. m. All interested in the project are asked to attend the lessons on Monday or contact Mr. Lawrence Brent the school principal. CAMP FIRE MEET CHANGED The Wa Can te Ka Camp Fire girls will meet December 9 in stead of December 2 due to the illness of their leader, it was an nounced this week. Memory books will not be needed, only material for Christmas cards and decora tions, it was said. HEPPNER BUTTER CREEK LIVESTOCK CLUB The first meeting of the year was held at the club house Sun day November 21. The meeting was held to join the South Heppner and the But ter Creek district. PPCrL Man Promoted Tq Sales Engineer Promotion of Elwayne Zerba to commercial and industrial sales engineer for the Pendleton dis trict of Pacific Power & Light com pany has been announced by Tom Keenan, district manager. Pendleton is rapidly becoming a manufacturing center on the Pacific Power system and Zerba will help industry in the use of electrical information to industry wishing to locate in the Pendle ton area. In the lighting field Zerba will help develop comfortable and pleasant plant and store lighting to increase sales production and safety. Zerba a native of Athena, has served as field engineer for the Pacific Power since his gradua tion as an electrical engineer from Washington State college in 1950. Pendleton, on Saturday evening, December 4 at 8 o'clock under the auspices of the Pendleton group of Alcoholics Anonymous. A panel of three will be head ed by Gordon Ramey, special lecturer on the staff of the Ore gon alcohol education committee, an organization created by spec ial act of the state legislature. He will be seconded by Dr. Ed ward M. Scott, psycholist, teach er and author of the new novel "Harvest Time", published by Pageant Press of New York. Dr. Scott will present the problem of alcoholism from the clinical point of view. A. groups in Seattle, Portland, La Grande, Spokane, and Walla Walla will all contribute to the general discussion' following the presentations of the speakers. This open forum is the first of its kind to be presented in this area. It represents the coopera tive effort of many organizations which are vitally interested in the treatment of alcoholism as a disease a disease affliction more than 3,000,000 people in the U.S. today. . o P-TA TO HOLD ANNUAL CHILI SUPPER The Heppner P-TA will give its annual chili supper Friday, December 10 proceeding the lone Heppner basketball game. It will be served from 5:30 until game time at the school cafeteria. o CONFIRMATION HELD Nine persons were confirmed in All Saints Episcopal church last Sunday evening by the Bishop of Eastern Oregon, the Rt. Rev. Lane W, Barton. A reception followed for the Bishop, a guest of the evening, Rev. and Mrs. Harold Parrott of Walla Walla, and the new members. It was announced that 47 per sons had been confirmed in the last 18 months and that twice during that time three genera tions knelt together for the ser vice, which is thought to be a record.
