Franklin Ball and Bernardine Kress Married at Boardman BOARDMAN The wedding of Miss Bernadine Kress, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kress, be came the bride of FrankHn Ball, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball Sr., in a single ring ceremony Saturday evening at 6 p. m., May 29 at the Boardman Community church with the Rev. Wilson, Minister of the Nazarene church, Hermiston reading the marriage rites. The bride, beautiful in a gray suit, with a corsage of red roses, and white hat was given in mar riage by her father, Harold Kress. Ushers were a brother of the bride, Ivan Kress and Arthur Sanders, Hermiston. Mr. Ray Steinhouse, Hermiston fang two numbers, "Always" and T Love You Truly", accompanied by Miss Beverly Cummings, Her miston, who also played the brides march. In charge of the gift table were Miss Pat Kress and Miss Betty Olmstead; Miss Rena Anderson was in charge of the guest book. After the bride and groom cut the first piece of the three-tiered wedding cake, and the bride feeding the groom, the cake was served by Mrs. Lewis Ralston, aunt of the bride and Mrs. Ray Steinhouse, others serving and pouring were Mrs. I. T. Pearson, Miss Jean Scott and Miss Zelma Cowan. Out of town relatives attend ing was the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Emma Kress, an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rals ton and baby, Lewiston, Idaho. Roy Ball Sr. and daughter Thres sa, VVestfir, Oregon; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ball and son Larry, lone, both men, brothers of the groom; Mrs. Grace Bates, aunt of the groom; Mr. and Mrs. John Rue ker and daughter, Riddle, Oregon. The bride was a graduate of the class of 54, Boardman high school receiving her diploma on Monday evening May 24th. After a few days the young couple will be in Nevada, where Mr. Ball is employed with a contractor. County Delegates to Attend State Home Economics Conference Morrow county delegates will attend the annual state home eco nomise extension conference at Corvallis, June 2nd and 3rd, ac cording to Maud C. Casswell, county agent, home economic. Mrs. Markham Baker and Mrs. Norman Nelson, delegates to the triennial conference at Toronto, Canada, last August, will give a report at the state council lunch eon on June 3. Morrow county committee members will serve on the follow ing committees: the Azalea House committee, world citizenship, re search, legislative, health and safety, public relations, 4-H club and the triennial conference. County committee members at tending the conference are: Mrs. Earl Blake, Lena; Mrs. Omar Reit mann, lone; Mrs. William Garner, Boardman; Mrs. Markham Baker, lone, delegate from Farm Bureau and former county committee member, and Mrs. Norman Nel son, Lexington, state home eco nomics council, will tour with Morrow county delegates and Mrs. Maud Casswell to the conference. (Alex Thompson Photo) Epsilon Sigma Alpha Gives $200 Toward one Wading Pool The Beta Omega Chapter of the -Ipsi'on Sigma Alpha voted io give $:.'00 toward the wading pool to be constructed near the swim ming pool at the lone school. The chapter held their meeting at the wine of Mrs. Walter Jacobs. A ery impressive installa iim of the new officers was held with Mrs. Kietmann as installing officer. The members of the chap ter and their husbands enjoyed I laying cards and a picnic lunch after the meeting. Family Present At Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Creston Robinson entertained Sunday with a dinner party for members of the family. Guests were Mrs. Lena Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly and four children of Kimberly, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Saling. Wren and Shany, and Deannie and Vickie Robinson. Thf menu was fruit cocktail, broiled steak, potatoes, gravy, corn, molded salad and pie ala mode. Ann Belle Coleman, reporter Sashaying Sallies Aid Auxiliary Funds The American Legion Auxil iary's money making project the "Sashaying Sallies" is still in pro gress and recent hostesses have been Mrs. John Hartman, Mrs. Richard Meador, Mrs. Kemp Dick, and Mrs. Alex Thompson. Tuesday morning Mrs. Jack Van Winkle hosted the following mem bers, Mrs. LeRoy Gardner, Mrs. Alex Thompson, 'Mrs. James Healy, Mrs. Creston Robinson, Mrs. Don Bellenbrock, Mrs. Mike Saling', Mrs. Raymond Ferguson, Mrs. Ethel Adams, Mrs. Jack Mar shall, Mrs. Dick Meador, Mrs. Wil liam Heath and Mrs. William Labhart. mm SEE PAGE 8 Birthday Party Held at Lowe Home Miss Francine Francis, daugh ter of Mrs. Rose Francis was guest of honor at a birthday party given for her by Mrs. Robert Lowe at the Lowe resident Tuesday night. Guests were Carol Groshen, Alice Peterson, Dolores Easter, Meredith Thomson, Brenda Beng tson, Peggy Applegate, Joan Bros nan, Phyllis Quackenbush, Dor othy French, Mrs. Rose Francis, Sharon and Verna French. Following refreshments were served by the hostess the group attended the show at the Heppner Star Theater. Miss Irene Zinter, Alfred Huitt Married At Friday Ceremony At an afternoon ceremony at the Methodist church Friday, Miss Irene Zinter became the bride of Alfred Huitt. The bride, daughter of R. H. Zinter of Spokane was given in marriage by her brother Sidney Zinter. She wore a sheer pink ballarina length gown and car ried pink rosebuds and stephano tis. Mrs. Clarence Johnson, matron of honor, wore a pink lavendar afternoon dress and carried a nosegay of gold carnations. James Driscoll served as best man for the groom and ushers were James Wilson and George Warner. Reverend L. D. Boulden offici ated during the ceremony and Miss Donna Hudson sang "Be cause", accompanied by Mrs. Boulden. Following the ceremony a re ception was held at the Zinter home on Gale street. Mrs. James Wilson was in charge of cutting the cake and Mrs. Magne Storro and Mrs. George Warner presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Lucy Peterson took charge of gifts and Miss Frances Duran was responsible for the guest book. Out of town guests were Mrs. Nelda Storro of Priest River, Ida ho and Miss Evelyn Cowan of Spokane. After a short wedding trip to Washington the couple is now at home in Heppner. Memorial Day Dinner Party Held at Evans' Mr. and Mrs. Earl Evans enter tained with a dinner party on Memorial Day for the following guests: Ben Buschke, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bookworms Meet at Parish Home May 26 Mrs. Fred Parrish was hostess to the Bookworms club which met at her home Tuesday May 25. Mrs. Lucy Peterson reviewed the book "the Road to Bithynia" by Frank G, Slaughter. Other members present were Miss Leta Humphreys, Mrs. Sara McNamer, Mrs. Ted Smith, Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, Mrs. Cornett Green and Mrs. Floyd Jones. Mrs. Elwin Hughes New President of Legion Auxiliary Newly elected officers of the American Legion Auxiliary at a meeting of the group at O'Don nell's Cafe Tuesday night were, Mrs. Elwin Hughes, president ; j Mrs. John Hartman, tirst vice president; Mrs. Jack Bailey, se cond vice president ; Mrs. Jack Marshall, socfetary; Mrs. Dick Meador, treasurer; and Mrs. Alex Thompson, historian. Members j of the executive committee are' Mrs. Don Bellenbrock, Mrs. Harry Tamblyn and Mrs. Gene Fergu son. Mrs. Don Dellenbrock is the outgoing president. Mrs. LeRoy Gardner, poppy chairman announced that appro proximately $200.00 had been made on the popy sales. Americanism chairman, Mrs. Jack Van Winkle announced the essay winders as being Helen Graham and Janice Beamer, first and second for the girls respec tively and Bob Laughlin and Burke Gentry for the boys. Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Meador and Mrs. Marshall were named as delegates to the state convention in Coos Bay in June. Alternates are Mrs. Hartman, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Dick Wells. OES Picks Grand Chapter Deligates At a meeting of the Ruth chap ter (if the order of Eastern Star, Friday night, the following dele gates were selected to attend Grand Chapter in Portland during this month, Worthy Matron and Worthy Pal ion, Mr. and Mrs. Har old Pocket; Mrs. (', C. Carmichael, and Mrs. Dick Wilkinson. OES DATE CHANGED There will be no regular meet ing of Ruth chapter of Order of Eastern Star on June 11 due to conflicting dates with the Grand Chapter, it was announced today. A special meeting to hear the (rand Chapter report will be held Wednesday, June 16. A reception will follow at the home of the parents of the bride. Wilson, Mrs. James Barratt and children of Corvallis and Alva Jones. 4-H Club News JOLLY CHEFS The Jolly Chefs cooking III club met at Howton's May 22 and had their mothers for dinner. The dinner was prepared by the members and served to Mrs. E. M. Baker and Mrs. Lloyd Howton, the only guests present. HAPPY BAKERS The Happy Bakers cooking III met May 24 at the home of Dora Sue Davidson. After a success ful business meeting the mem bers prepared the following menu carrot sticks, hamburgers, cucum ber salad, hot biscuits and cool ado which was en joyed by all. We discussed filling in our re cord books and preparation of dinners. At our next meeting we are going to prepare and bake I) read. Barbara Steagall, reporter. George gave their reports of the Conference held at Olympia, Wash., last month, to the Soropti mist club at their luncheon meet ing at O'Donnell's on Thursday. It was announced at this meet ing that Virginia Gouty had been chosen to receive the club's 411 scholarship for this year. Mrs. Earl Blake was a guest of the club.
