It was the first time that the grade school band appeared as an organized unit. That fact was much appreciated by the audience who listened. This is a wonderful thing for it assures an enlarged band each year. Credit was given to Mr. Raskin and the grade school student who worked so hard with him. This includes the band mothers. The crowd was greatly pleased with the solos, duets, trios and high school band. Hearty congratulations to the en tire music department. If those who are vitally inter ested in the work of the band could read the receipts that have been returned from the La Grande music festival, they would be very happy. All people par ticipating in solos and band work received an excellent rating and very fine comments which can be useful to the individual. I very carefully read the summary sheets written by the judges and it was very gratifying, indeed, to check the technical progress pro duced by such training. A very fine time was had by the mothers who attended the banquet given in their honor by the Girl's League April 14. Many fine tributes were given to the faithfulness of the mothers and an inspiration was received by the youths from the mothers. The local board of education is giving special attention to the opening of the swimming pool which will probably be the first of may. Look for further an nouncements. The high school baseball team appreciated the way the game with Boardman turned out April 16. The score was 2 to 7 in favor jast of lone. They arc looking for ward to tne game witn ticno on April 20 and hope they can do as well. The school board has tendered Superintendent Ward a new two year contract beginning July 1, 1954. He is working with them now on plans, schedules and de tails for another year.
