I CANDIDATES' FILING FEES I Filing fees paid by candidates, I along with cost of space for state ! nients and portraits in the Pri mary Election Voters' Pamphlet, aggregated 11.290, David O'Hara, register of elections for the Sec- I retary of State, said Monday. The tiling fees totaled $5,810 and pamphlet space $5,480, O'Hara said printing of the pamphlets is Hearing completion for the last counties, and all will be delivered before May 3. The law provides that copies of the pamphlet shall he mailed to all registered voters in the slate. PLANS FOR STATE FAIR The biggest little word in slum-business, "new", will he on the E pennant of the 1951 Oregon State Fair Commission. Plans are in high tempo for a redesig ned, record breaking show. The commission met this week to con fer with the Salem Chamber of Commerce and the Salem Plan ning Commission, developed pre viously, accepted arrangements and reelected Dr. K. B. Stewart of Roseburg, chairman, and Henry Aherns, Turner, secretary. The 1954 eight -day fair will open Sept. 4. The signal pro gram change will lie nationally known circus to suplant a rodeo. Besides decorating streets the Salem C of C will operate tourist booths for fair visitors with a i general information service and book lodgings with local motels and apartment houses. STATE FIGURES Taxes collected from employ ers during the past year acere- gate $11,241,184 lowest since 1946 while an additional $1,705,955 was received from the federal government as interest on the state's reserves. Oregon teenagers had 17,063 work permits issued for their employment during 1953. Ninety per cent of the permits were for part - time work. The state unemployment com pensation trust fund dropped $!), 119,216 in the past year and may go slightly lower.
