Benge was honored on 1 (he occasion of his 90th birthday Saturday night with a family dinner given by his daughter, Mrs. Luola Bengtson at the Benge residence. Guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Terrel Benge, Mrs. Joan Mil ler and son Terry, Lynn Marie and Ralph Benge of Condon, Brenda, Brent and Hilda Bengt son, Francis Dillier of Condon and Mrs. Benge. ; Ralph Lee Benge of Condon, grandson of Benge also was cele brating a birthday, his four teenth. Following the dinner a birth day cake was presented to both Ralphs; the top layer was in honor of the elder Mr. Benge with 1864-1954 iced on the top. The bottom tier had fourteen candles in honor of the younger Ralph. JayCee-ettes Elect New Officers At Business Meeting Following the monthly joint potluck with the Jay Cees, the Jay Cee-Ettes held their regular business meeting Wednesday, January 20 at the Civic Center. -,, Election of officers was held i Springer. and the following were electpd tn office for the ensuing year: ; SoroptimistS Hear Degree Of Honor Has Installation of New Officers Tuesday The Degree of Honor held their regular social meeting Tuesday January 12 in the basement of the Methodist church. Following a short business meeting installation of officers and initiation was held. New initiates are Mrs. Rav Massey, Mrs. L. H. Case, Mrs. Creth Harris, Mrs Sie Walker and Mrs. Audie Walker. New officers installed were: president, Mrs. Theta Stratton; vice president, Mrs. Arnold Sprin ger; second vice president, Mary Ann Jensen; color bearer, Mrs. Al Pierson; secretary, Mrs. Bill Farra; treasurer, Mrs. 'Carl King; inner watch, Mrs. Lloyd Harsh man; outer watch, Mrs. Scotty Applegate; pianist, Mrs. Clive Huston; assistant pianist, Mrs. Mel Lavelle; usher, Mrs. Owen Leathers, Jr.; assistant usher, Mrs. Lincoln Nash. Installing officers were: instal ling officer, Mrs. Clara Gertson installing usher, Mrs. Carl Mc Daniels; and installing past president, Mrs. Vernon Munkers The immediate past president. Mrs. Jim McCabe presented each of her officers for last year with a personalized apron. Carnation Club Meets At Bergstrom Home Mrs. John Bergstrom was host ess to the regular meeting of the Carnation Club at her home on Thursday, January 14. During the business meeting plans were discussed for the building of a permanent meeting place for the Degree of Honor. O. George, celebrated his tenth birthday Saturday evening, January 23 with a dessert and theater party. Those attending were Marlene, Larry and Bobby Fetsch; Diana and Ruby Ann Fulleton; Dennis Talk on Homemaking Mrs. Katherine Ilager spoke to the Soroptimist club- at their Thursday luncheon meeting at O'Donnell's, on her classification, which is education and home- making. She said the teaching of home making today includes much be sides cooking and sewing. It takes in many things such as grooming, menu making, interior decorating, health habits and adjusting to society. She also is supervisor of the cafeteria. She told of planning and preparing meals for such a large .number and how hard it is to work under such crowded con ditions as now exist. In Novem ber of 1953 there were 760 more meals served than in November of 1949 in the same amount of space and with the same facili ties. She also said that many schools are starting homemak ing classes for boys. o 60 Attend lone Masonic District Meeting Monday Over 60 persons attended the district meeting of the Masonic lodge at lone Monday evening with representatives present from Condon, Fossil, Arlington and Heppner. Judy Ferrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferrell celebrat ed her sixth birthdav with a party at the home of her parents Monday afternoon. Guests were Janice Baker, Con nie Barger, Nancy Carpenter, Su san Drake, Tricia Farley, Barbara I-uileton, Margaret Green, Bar bara Gross, Judy Jones, Leslie Faye Meador, Joyce Nolan, Linda Smith, Joan Stockard, Meredl Webb, Julia West, Rogina Wil son, Erna Lynn Winchester, Brenda Young, Barbara Gribble, Leeann Warren, Sharon Hudson, and Nancy Ferrell. During the afternoon, "Pin The Tail on The Donkey" was played with Sharon Hudson winning the prize. Refreshments of birthday cake, cup cakes, dixie cups, and candy were served by Mrs. Ferrell, as sisted by Mrs. Marvin Smith and Mrs. Lowell Gribble. o Bill Cox Celebrates Ninth Birthday Bill Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cox celebrated his ninth birthday Saturday night with a party at the home of his parents. Following refreshments of ice cream and cake the group went to the show at the Star Theater. Guests were LeRoy Gardner, Chris Burkenbine, Jay Stratton, Laurence Green, Bob Hager, Mike Williams, Larry Smith, and Laddie Dick. Womens Group Has Missionary Meet The Wromens Auxiliary of the Episcopal Church held a mission ary meeting Monday night at the church parish house. Mrs. Joe Nys, who was in charge of the meeting gave a talk on the ten commandments and the teachings of Christ. Mrs. Ture Peterson sang two vocal solos and Mrs. Luola Beng ton accompanied her. Mrs. Bengtson also gave a short history about three church hymns. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. A. D. McMurdo and Mrs. Grace Nickerson. Barratt Home Scene Of Dessert Party Mrs. William Barratt enter tained at her home Wednesday night, January 20, with a dessert and card party. Guests were Mrs. Kemp Dick. The B string was defeated in the game with Heppner here Saturday evening. The school wishes to compliment the people, the coach, team and student body from Heppner for their fine co-opera-! tion and sportsmanship here Sat urday evening. The game was clean and fast. The school appre- dates the fine support given to them by the entire community,1 and for the good attendance at i the sock dance after the game. To date the high school has! played 10 games and has losti none. 6 were league games with' no losses. j The grade school played two games with Heppner here Satur day afternoon but lost them.
