A pleasant time was enjoyed by all present and at the close of the meeting a lovely gift was presented to the O'Harra's for their newly deco rated home. Lovely refreshments were served: Lodge was held at the Rebekah hall on Thursday night with Delpha Jones as Noble Grand in the chair. Mrs. Mildred Davidson was installed as outside guard Ian; Mrs. Alice Majeske as L. S. ft. G. Refreshments were served by the Oddfellows, Cecil Jones and Oris Padberg. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones were called to Tietan Monday by the serious illness of Mr. Jones mo ther. Mrs. Rhoda Jones. Mrs. Alvin Wagonblast recent ly underwent a major operation at the Mid-Columbia hospital in The Dalles, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. George Steagall are the proud parents of a son born to them on Monday at the Pionerr Memorial hospital In Iloppner. Mrs. William Smethurst went to The Dalles cm Monday to visit her daughter Mrs. Herman Zieg lor. Miss Deanna Steagall who at tends St. Joseph's Academy in Pendleton was a weekend guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wil bur Steagall. She returned to her school on Monday. Mrs. Murl Cornelisoh has re covered sufficiently so that the restaurant is again open for busi ness. The regular meeting of the P TA was held last Wednesday night in the school auditorium. At this time Mrs. Gertson of Iloppner showed several reels of pictures pertaining to her recent trip to Europe and adjoining countries. This was very inter esting to all present and greatly appreciated. After the meeting! was over, a delicious luncn was served with Mrs. Alex Hunt and Mrs. Kendall as hostesses. Roy Rogers Shines 'Em Up! King of the cowboys Roy Rogers, with an assist by his lovely wife Dale Evans, enjoy a shine of shines on the boots he will wear in a forthcoming movie. The famous western star stresses neatness during all personal appearances on TV, movies or the rodeo. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jewel re turned from their honeymoon, which was spent in Missouri, visiting Mr. Jewel's parents and other relatives, last Sunday and were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Capon. On Monday they moved to their new home on Rudio. Mr. Jewel is employed by the Capon Brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Gilman. who have spent some time at the ranch home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard Gilman, drove to Hepp ner Sunday to visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Norris Stubble field were business visitors in Heppner on Thursday. C. A. Brown brought his wife home from the hospital in John Day last Thursday. Mrs. Brown is recovering satisfactorily from her operation last week. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Campbell and Mrs. Richard Cox were at tending to matters of business in Heppner last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bleakman were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rho Bleakman last Wednes day. They also visited Mrs. Ida Bleakman. Mr. and Mrs. Theron King and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnard were attending to matters of business in John Day last Friday. Mr. Bar nard visited his physician and had a medical checkup while there. Thev also visited Mrs. Lola Shank and Mr. and Mrs. Geo Stirritt. Going were Prin cipal Ray Anderson, Ronald Black, Walter Turner, Ross Wil son, Tom Van Etten and David Cady. Mrs. Clayton Allen, state chair man of Subscriptions for General Federation of Women's Clubs spent Thursday in Portland where she attended a State board meet ing. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tahnehill motored to Irrigon Thursday even ing where they attended the Irri gon grange meeting. Boardman basketball five were defeated at Irrigon Friday even ing in a close game, having to go into two overtime periods. The score was 34-36. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller was called to Gresham Saturday due to the serious illness of Mrs. Mil ler's mother Mrs. Sadie Chase. T Sgt. and Mrs. Ralph C. Mai eto, Travis Air Force Ba'se, Calif., were callers Friday at the home of M Sgt. and Mrs. George Baker and family, on a return trip from Spokane, Wash. The two fam ilies are old friends. Saturday guests at the home of Mrs. Florence Root and her mother Mrs. Olive Mefford were Mr. and Mrs. Max Deweesse, of GrancMevv, Wash., Mrs. Drewsy Wood, Mr. Teddy Montaro and three daughters, and Sammy Montaro all of Wapato, Wash. Mrs .Wood is a niece of Mrs. Mefford. Mrs. Henry Zivney, her daugh- return to work in the store afterter and son, Delores and Roger, several davs illness. The Hayes' daughter Mrs. Johnnin Baldino and infant daughter returned to their home in Spokane Sunday, Mr. Baldino arriving Saturday for his family. For the past four months, all steam plants had to be operated at full capacity, around the clock, and it will be some time before the accumulated extra costs of this abnormal type of operation can he offset by the temporary surcharges now in effect.
