Mrs. " Fannie Griffith, who was driving the car ran into a soft shoulder and in straightening up the car ran into the bank on the other side of the road. Mrs. Griffith was uninjured. Mrs. Padberg and Mrs. Swanson were taken to the hos pital in Heppner. Mrs. Swanson came home Sunday. , Mrs. Omar Rietmann, Mrs. Harry yarnell and Mrs. Lana Pad berg attended a flower judging school at Pendleton Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week. . Those from here attending the Singer Sewing Machine shop in Pendleton every Thursday are: Mrs. Roy Lindstrom, Mrs. E. W. Bristow, Mrs. Charles O'Connor, Mrs. Milton Morgan, Mrs. Adon Hamlett, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Garland Swanson and Mrs. Arthur Warren. Mrs. Roy Lindstrom was a Port land visitor last week. Mrs. Joe Gaarsland entertained the Birthday Club at her home last Saturday. The honorees were Mrs. Elsie Peterson, Mrs. Harry Yarnell, Mrs.' Paul O'Meara and Mrs. Walter Corley. The hostesses were Mrs. Gaarsland, Mrs. Ida Coleman and Mrs. Wm. Seehafer. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns and Mrs. Edith Nichoson spent last week in Portland where the Dobyns attended the wedding of Miss Fern Peterson, daughter of Riiard Peterson Friday evening Oct. 24. Mrs. Nichoson visited with her daughter, Alice. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carlson left for Woodburn Tuesday to visit his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Carlson. The elder Mr. Carlson is home from the hospital where he underwent major surgery. Mrs. Dwight Haugen of Port land showed slides of her trip to Europe last summer to the Topic Club members at the home of Mrs. Verner Troedson Saturday. The countries of which pictures were shown were France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Hol land, England and Wales. Re freshments were served after the meeting by Mrs. Troedson, Mrs. Fannie Griffith and Mrs. Arvilla Swanson. - Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Haugen of Portland and Miss Lois Howk of Troutdale visited relatives here over the weekend. Mrs. Georgia Brewster of Portland returned to her home with them after visit ing her daughter, Mrs. Verner Troedson. The Haugens showed their pictures of the European trip to a group of friends at the Roy Lindstrom home Saturday even ing. John Eubanks has been hauling cattle for Harold Cohn with his trucks to Wells, Nev. Robert De Spain, John Buchanan and C. E. Brenner have been making "the trips. Bill Rowell left for the Veterans hospital in Portland Sunday for a check up. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hartfield of Arlington were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon White Friday evening of last week. Mrs. Eugene Gehrke returned home from the Pioneer Memorial hospital last week. Rev. Herbert Hanson of Brush Prairie, Wash., conducted services at the Valby Lutheran Church In Gooseberry Sunday. Those at tending from here were Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Ted Peterson of The Dalles spent a couple of days at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peterson last week. Arland Emert of Santa Rosa spent a few days last week with his mother, Mrs. Mary Emert. Mrs. Wm. Eagle and son, Skip py, plan to leave thh week for Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Hughes. Mr., and Mrs. Henry Osibov and children spent the weekend at Hood River with relatives. The Mid Columbia Association of Congregational Churches met at the Community Church Oct. 23. Ministers at tending were Bruno Pueschel of Condon, Paul Neerman and Stuart Olbrich of Milton Freewater, John Lanenes, The Dalles, Alfred Shir ley of lone and Paul Davis of Portland. A business meeting and work shops and talks were given in the morning and in the even ing an address was given by Mr. Stanley North of New York. A dinner was served by the Maran atha Club at 6 p. m. and worship services were conducted by Rev. Shirley and the Community Church choir in the evening. Miss Gladys Bershers left for Los Angeles last week after visit ing her parents Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray. Mrs. Frederick Man in, Mrs. Roland Bergstrom and Mrs. Fred Nelson attended the special recre ation!;! meeting at Heppner Oct. 2-1, which was conducted by Miss Jessalie Mallalieu of Corvallis.
