She Qmitra mmtx Park Improvements Planned By lone Garden Club By Echo Palmateer The Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Echo Palmateer on Tuesday Oct. 11 with Ms. Anna Ball and Mrs. Harry Yarnell as co-hostesses. Mrs. Ball gave a talk on the care of house plants and Mrs. Omar Rietmann demon strated making corsages. Each of the members made a corsage. . It" was decided at the business meet ing to erect a tool house and to plant lilacs next spring in the city park. Several of the mem bers plan to attend the flower judging school in Pendleton Oct. 21,22 and 2.1 Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Mrs. Gor don White received the door prize. Mrs. Pete Cannon and Mrs. Ted Palmateer entertained the Arnica Club in the basement of the Com munity Church Wednesday, Oct. 15. Games were played and those receiving prizes were Mrs. Earl McCabe, Mrs. Darrell Padberg and Mrs. Earl McKinney. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Smith were recent visitors in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bergstrom attended the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Branner Reese in Yakima Oct. 12. The Reeses were married in lone October 12, 1902. They have two sons, Delbert and John of Yakima. She was the for mer Frankie Cochran and is a niece of Mrs. Ida Grabill. Walter Roberts and Henry Clark decorated the interior of Mrs. Clara Kincaid's house at her farm last week. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rietmann and Mr. and Mrs. David Riet mann, spent Wednesday of last week at the Paul Balsiger home in White Salmon. Mr. and Mrs. Paul O'Meara left for Santa Rosa Thursday of last week to attend the funeral of his brother James O'Meara. Mrs. Ellen Rieth is staying at the home of her son, Francis Rieth at Har rington, Wash., during the O'Meara's absence. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Druse of Yakima are visiting her sister, Mrs. Ida Grabill. They all went to Lone Rock last week to visit relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan and children spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Winches ter at their camp in the moun tains. Among those from here attend ing the U. S. C. and Oregon State football game in Portland Satur day were Lloyd Morgan, Harlan Crawford, Clyde Crawford, Alton Yarnell and Robert Peterson. Those attending the UCLA Washington game in Seattle were Bill and Bob Rietmann and John Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Rietmann spent the weekend in The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Fayne Ely of For est Grove spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank lin Ely. Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann and family spent Sunday with Van Rietmann in Condon. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cropp of Gates were visitors here over the weekend. Glenn DeSpain of rendleton spent Sunday at the home of his son, Robert DeSpain, Mrs. Walter Dobyns is visiting relatives in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Newton and daughter Judy, of Coos Bay spent the weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jepsen. $362.50 was taken in on the benefit dance given for the Bill Rowell family at the Legion hall Saturday evening. Lunch was sold and cakes were auctioned off. Music was furnished by local people. Weekend guests at the Harvey Ring home were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ring and son Stephen of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ledbetter and son Clayton, Bill Miller and John Davis all of Hood River. Mrs. Harry Ring and son are now visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Allen. The Bunchgrass Rebekah Lodge held a joint meeting with Holly Lodge of Lexington Thursday evening of last week. The Bunch grass lodge put on a skit when presenting a gift from both the lodges to the Mrs Olive Ramey, Assembly President, who paid her official visit that evening. Those taking part in the skit were Mrs Omar Rietmann. Mrs. Gordon White and Mrs. Harvey Ring. Charles Allen Tom of Rufus, a candidate for representative for the 22nd district gave a talk at Willows grange meeting Satur day evening explaining the mea sures to be voted on Nov. 4 The H. E. C. of Willows held their first meeting at the Grange hall Friday Oct. 17 with a pot- luck dinner at noon. In the after noon refreshments were served by Mrs. Wate Crawford and Mrs. Ida Coleman. At the business meet ing committees were appointed for the dinner, bazaar and carni val to be given Nov. 22. Mrs. Donald Ball and daughter, Marsha Lorraine, are staying at the Lewis Ball home for a few days. Dinner guests at the Elmer Holtz home Friday evening of last week were Mrs. Walter Jepsen and children, Virginia, Anna, Evelyn Frank and John, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen and daughter, Susan. Weekend guests at the home of Mrs. Mary Emert were Mr. and Mrs? Clarence Emert of Santa Rosa California who just returned from a trip to Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wickham of Kuna, Ida ho, Dee Emert of Arlington and Mrs. Blanche Willis of Portland. Mrs. Willis will make her home with her mother, Mrs. Mary Emert. Her husband Claire Willis passed away in Portland in Aug ust. Mr. and Mrs. George Myles were called to La Grande last week on account of the illness of her bro therd. Mrs. Margaret Scott of Oakland California was a recent visitor of her niece, Mrs. Delbert Emert. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen were Portland visitors last week where they attended P. I. and also went to Forest Grove for Home Coming at the Pacific University. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stone left for their home in Solan, Wash., Monday after spending a few days with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Ely. Around $150 was taken in at at the high school Girl's League dinner in the school gym Sunday. The gym was decorated in the Hallowe'en theme. Proceeds will go toward redecorating the lea gue room. Walter Roberts and Henry Clark are painting the Lewis Halvorsen Ijouse below town. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin and children of Hermiston spent the weekend at the Henry Clark home. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Emert re turned home from Portland Sun day evening where he went for a medical checkup. Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom and sons, Herbert and Roland, and Miss Nancy Ball went to Moro Sunday to attend the Hereford stock show. Mr. Ekstrom and son Dick, went over Friday of last week with three registered Hereford bulls. They received 1st, 3rd and 4th prizes on them. Donald Eubanks of Oregon Tech school at Klamath Fulls spent the weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks. , - Mrs,. C. E. Brenner was a Tort land visitor last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Turner of Baker stopped at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. frank Engleman, Wednesday of last week while on their way home from Canada and Washington.
