Page 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, September 6, 1951 Social Happenings Gentry-Healy Rites Event of June St Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California was the scene, June 19. of the wedding of Miss Patricia Healy, daughter of Mrs Margaret Healy of Heppner and Billy E. Genty son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gentry of Heppner. The bride wore a brown check ed suit with white accessories and a yellow rosebud corsage. Jack Gentry of Heppner was best man for his brother. The newlyweds left at once for Los Angeles on their honeymoon, after which they are at home at 729 B East Boone in Santa Mon ica, California. The bride was a 1951 graduate of Heppner high school. She grad uated with high honors, was queen of the Senior Prom and was Good Citizen for the year. Gentry is in the U. S. Army stationed with the Signal Corps at Camp Cook, California. Those attending the ceremony from Heppner were Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gentry and son Jack; Mrs. Margaret Healy and Keith Con ner. o Royal Court Guests Of Queen Ingrid Queen Ingrid Hermann enter tained her royal court, Ida Lee Chapel, Jean Reiniger, Elise Bauernfiend, Nancy Rands and Eileen Ball, their chaperone, Juanita Rletmann and their mothers with a luncheon Thurs day at O'Donnell's. After the luncheon the girls took flowers to the patients at Pioneer Memorial Hospital. Rainbow Girls Hold First Meeting of Fall Ruth Assembly of Rainbow Girls held their first meeting of the fall Monday evening. The main business was the election of officers for the next four months. Installation will be held at the next regular meeting which is Monday, September 17. On Sunday, October 7 they will have a special meeting in honor of the Grand Worthy Advisor, Doris Groves of Lebanon and the district Deputy, Mrs. Owsley of LaGrande. o Miss June Van Winkle Honored at Shower Mrs. Betty Carlson, Mrs. Yvonne Lovgren and Mrs. Ramona Mar shall were hostesses to a lovely kitchen shower honoring Miss June Van Winkle at the aid room in Lexington one day last week. After games were played and the honoree opened her many gifts, refreshments were served. Miss Van Winkle is the bride elect of Mr. DuVall of Portlad. The wedding will be solemnized at the Catholic Church in Hepp ner. o EASTERN STAR SOCIAL CLUB MEETS The social club of the Eastern Star held a card party Saturday afternoon at the Masonic Temple. Hostesses for the even were Mrs. Harry Duvall and Marjorie Wor den. The log was kept by June Smith, who sent the fol lowing report:) For the benefit of landlubbers in or near Heppner, we present a brief account of our cruise in Canadian waters, August 13 to Angust 19. We lifted the anchor I of our ship, the "Jennie Lynn" Monday morning, with Orville Smith as Captain, Jim Smith, first mate, Marion Green, Chief Engineer, and June Smith, Gal ley Slave. Jim Smith was. demot ed to Second Mate first day out for getting off course. The trip to Nanaimo, B. C. was smooth in fair weather and took 5 hours. We had dinner ashore in style at the Tldeview, the town's best. Nanaimo is a pretty little harbor town "with hanging flower baskets in the light poles and six beautiful Princess ships arriving daily from Vancouver, B. C. Next morning we pushed off at 5:45 to cross the treacherous waters of the Georgia Straits. Aft er a rough 5 hrs., with dishes fly ing we arrived at a store & warf called Egmont. There we took on gas, water and groceries, and rode the Seechedt Rapids a bit before the slack tide, resulting in several more broken dishes aboard. After a delightful ride through lovely scenery in fine weather, we ar rived at our destination, the end of Salmon Arm, wih nothing but fishing on our minds. The male population immediately left for this pursuit, and returned to the "Jennie Lynn" at 9 p.m. with a basket full of trout, which soon became our dinner. Early next morning the four of us took two small boats to the lakes and spent the entire day fly fishing and trolling, bringing back plenty more of the rainbow and cut throat trout for our dinner and ice box. Leaving Salmon Arm the next morning at 11:25, we made the Seechelt Rapids just at slack, and cruised on to Pender Harbaur which is one of the most popular boating centers of the coast. Here we took on more gas, oil and ice, and spent the night anchored in beautiful Garden Bay. Each stop included a swim for the crew in the suprisingly warm salt water. Jim and Marion got us under way at 6 a.m. next morn ing, and we had a pleasant ixk hour trip to the resort. Mon., Sept. 10 Chamber of Commerce, O'Donnell's at noon. Thurs., Sept. 13 Women's Aux iliary of AHoSaints Episcopal church, 2:30 p.m. at the parish house. Fri., Sept 14 Ruth Chapter No. 32, O.E.S. first meeting of the falL weather, and mountain and water scenery not to be excelled any where. However, a regetta at Garden Bay called us back there on Sat urday. In the swim meet Jim entered the diving contest, and won first prize, a silver cup, be coming the first contestant from the States to win in any of their competition at this annual event. At 6 p.m. we decided to cross the Straits toward home, hoping for calm evening weather. It was by far our most exciting trip, be ing extremely rough, and be coming dark before we got to Nanaimo, which was the most welcome haven we all have ever known. The laSt two hours of the trip, in complete darkness was on instruments, which Mate Smith charted correctly, and regained first mate rating. After clearing customs next morning, and get ting supplies we headed for Fri day Harbor on San Juan Island, which is the clearing for boats in the United States. This concluded our delightful cruise and holiday in Canadian waters. o NEED Envelopes, Phone 882 Jimmie Whetmore Orchestra Returns For Fair Dances Visitors to the Morrow county fair and rodeo will again have an opportunity to dance to the music of Jimmie Whetmore and his famous orchestra when it ap pears Friday and Saturday nights at a principal attraction of this year's events. The dances are to be held on the grounds in the fair pavilion. 1 Whetmore has been heard in Heppner many times before, most recently at the Kickoff dance six weeks ago. Whetmore, besides being a great solo pianist in his own right, is the composer of many hits. CARD PARTY PLANNED BY EASTERN STAR A card party sponsored by the Heppner Eastern Star officer's club is to be held Saturday, Sep tember 22 at the Masonic Hall. o The Women's Auxilary of All Saints Episcopal Church will meet Thursday, September, 13 at 2:30 p.m. in the parish house. All members and friends are asked to attend. Ruth Chapter No. 32, Order of the Eastern Star will hold their first meeting of the fall on Fri day, September 14.
