Much To Be Thankful For When, in the memory of any livin? person, has there been a time in which there has been so much to be thankful for as we in America have on this 22nd day of November 1945? If one were to list the items it would require far more space than is available in this column and besides there would not be time to make a complete job of it. Since a shortage of space prohibits use of many words, brevity is in order. ' Our greatest joy comes from the fact that we are observing this Thanksgiving day in a spirit of peace. It is the first time in four years that we have been able to give thanks for the blessings we have received without fear of a knock at the door or ring of the telephone that might mean bad tidings. It is the first time in four years that many of us have been privileged to have loved ones about the Thanksgiving table who spent interven ing Thanksgivings in distant lands under condi tions that about the only thing they could be thankful for was being alive, with the hope that they would one day return to the scenes of their earlier days in a land that had its inception in the minds and hearts of men who sought the right to live as free men and to worship God as their con- .,r-5:-:..v'-"- .XJ ;', Mi 11 it GORDON'S DRUG STORE John Saager, Owner (Dai 33st 3hankiuin :a ;i0 :ia::a "v1 Most folks in America annually have found cause for Thanksgiving . . . But none of them ever have been more grateful than we war weary folks this November who offer a thousand thanks that the gruesome cost of lives is over, that our brave boys are coming home and we hope perpetual peace is now visible on the horizon. For these things we are truly grateful and so long as we follow in the faith of our forefathers, ever guarding the principles of democracy, we shall continue to observe Thanksgiving day with an ever-increasing appreciation for that hardy little band of Pil grims who sought a new land whereupon to build a new kind of government a free people's government whose leaders would be of their own choosing. EXAMINER COMING A traveling examiner of operat ors and chauffeurs is scheduled to arrive in Heppner Tuesday, Nov. 27 and will be on duty at the court house between the hours of 10 a. m. and 4 p. m. according to an an nouncement released from the sec retary of state's office. A joint meetig of the Pendleton Heppner Knights of Columbus was held Sunday at St. Patricks church, attendance.
