DEER KILL LOWEST IN YEARS, RANGER STATES Hunters have been numerous the first week of the deer hunting sea son, but early season kill has been the lowest in years, reports the lo cal forest office. Up to Wednesday forenoon approximately 50 deer had been put into storage in Heppner, a number far short of the mark in recent years. The shortage is attributed to the lack of time allotted to a large ma jority of the hunters, inasmuch as nearly everybody is employed these days and a brief week-end trip is all the time they can take- Short age' "of gas rations also has to be taken into the picture and in all , there will be at least 25 percent less venison in city lockers this fall than previously.
