8 Heppner Gazette Times, July 1 1943 Luncheon Group Aids Hospital Fund Hosnital funda and soldier recre ation took up much of the discus sion time at the weekly business men's luncheon Monday at the Lucas Place. Chairman Charles B. Cox presented Mayor J. O. Turner, who spoke a few minutes on the new pay-as-you-go tax plan, arriv ing at the conclusion that no matter how it is paid, the government will leave you little ait the best. An appeal for funds for the Mc Caw General hospital in Walla Walla resulted in a donation of $10 from the group- Discussion of soldier recreation failed to produce anything of a workable nature. Uncertainty of the use of Camp Heppner by the army left the question up in the air in sofar as organizing for regular re creation and entertainment. Now adays people drive out to the air port if a member of the family or a friend is cheduled to arrive by air, and this is quite a thrill, ac cording to Mrs. F. W. Turner who had the privilege of meeting her on Robert V., in Portland last week. Robert's work calls for speed be tween Detroit . and western centers and he takes to the air quite fre quently.
