Luncheon Group
Aids Hospital Fund
Hosnital funda and soldier recre
ation took up much of the discus
sion time at the weekly business
men's luncheon Monday at the
Lucas Place. Chairman Charles B.
Cox presented Mayor J. O. Turner,
who spoke a few minutes on the
new pay-as-you-go tax plan, arriv
ing at the conclusion that no matter
how it is paid, the government will
leave you little ait the best.
An appeal for funds for the Mc
Caw General hospital in Walla
Walla resulted in a donation of $10
from the group-
Discussion of soldier recreation
failed to produce anything of a
workable nature. Uncertainty of the
use of Camp Heppner by the army
left the question up in the air in
sofar as organizing for regular re
creation and entertainment.
LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES
RETURN FROM INSTITUTE
Mrs. F- W. Turner and Mrs. Chris
Brown returned the last of the week
from Portland where they attended
the Inernational Relations Institute.
A number of speakers were from
foreign countries, or represented
foreign countries and the local
people feel they learned many
things of vital interest to the
world at large. Some of the foreign
speakers were difficult to under
stand and it is possible many points
of interest were- missed. Two for
eign educators now teaching in wets
ern schools were Dr. Peter Kunkle,
German, of Los Angeles, and Dr.
Frank Munk, Czschoslovakian, now
teaching at Stanford university.
Mrs. Edna Turner who has been at
Eugene- several weeks joined the

To lubricate Uncle Sam's sub
marine Diesel engines so they
run clean and smooth on long
cruises, the Navy uses RPM
DELO.
The Navy is sharing this
"secret weapon" with the
home front . . . and RPM
DELO is doing a great job
iu thousands of tractor, truck,
marine and stationary Diesel
engines. It's specially com
pounded to prevent sludging
and gummed-up pistons it
actually cleans and frees rings
stuck through use of other
oils. Millions of test miles in
laboratories and actual service
proved that it just about
DOUBLES THE TIME BE

Navy can't afford to take

GETS THRILL OUT
OF PLANE LANDING
Meeting the local "flyer" used to
have its moments. That was in the
days before aviation became a reg
ular feature of our travel life. Now
adays people drive out to the air
port if a member of the family or
a friend is cheduled to arrive by
air, and this is quite a thrill, ac
cording to Mrs. F. W. Turner who
had the privilege of meeting her
on Robert V., in Portland last week.
Robert's work calls for speed be
tween Detroit . and western centers
and he takes to the air quite fre
quently. On this occasion he came
in on s, big airliner which had bat
tled a heavy storm in North Dakota
and suffered extensive damage. But
crew and passengers arrived safely
and that's what counts.
