HEPPNER GAZETTE TIMES, HEPPNER, OREGON, THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 1928. ' PAGE SIX BIG TENT DRAWS (Continued from Fint Pa) nomena in his scientific lectures. The gyroscope, electric magnet, and high frequency electricity were his tools at the evening performance with which he held his audience in tense expectancy and provided them with plenty of thrills. The single track aerial railway car was dem onstrated, which, Mr. Williams de clares will some day be the main mode of transportation. This car 1 was watched with extreme interest as it went racing back and forth across the loosely hung string that served as its track, it remaining up right at all times no matter how much the track swayed, and Mr. Williams was unable to throw it off the track by taking hold of the string and tossing it up and down. A gyroscope mounted on top of the car, and whirling at a rapid rate was the mechancal device used to maintain the stability and balance of the car. The important place of the electro magnet, and the attrib utes of high frequency "electricity proved equally attractive to the audience. Mr. Williams loaded his seemingly all to short lectures with a great amount of information of educational value to young and old alike. ' The Dixie Jubilee Singers, a com pany of three negro women and two men, gave two Saturday programs, and pleased with their versatile of ferings. Plantation melodies and old southern darky spirituals show ed them at their best, while their offerings of classical and popular music, both instrumental and vocal, was of a very high class. Different members of the company are out standing figures in the negro music al world. In the evening "Sun shine" Dietrick followed the Ju bilee singers with his "Sacrifice Hit," a short community-spirit ap peal, chock full of mirth. Sunday afternoon and evening typical 1928 revues were given by the Music Box Girls, a company of five girls and one gentleman, all accomplished musicians on a num ber of instruments. In their per formances were used the piano, vio lin, cello, bass viol, marimba, sax ophone and banjo. In brightly col ored costumes, .with an equally bright stage setting their offerings were picturesque. A school-girl theme was used with the gentleman acting as music master. Popular music was featured, though the classics were not ignored, and the Music Box Girls frolicked through their programs to a grand wind-up of Chautauqua. W. E. Mikesell . 1885 1885' May M.
