Believing that a false impression has been made regarding my trans actions as a public official, I wish to state that during the long years that I have served the people of Morrow county as commissioner I "ToServe- The Electrical Industry Must be FREE" "Leave the operation of public utilities to pri vate enterprise subject to the regulation of pub lic authority which has shown its fitness to reg ulate them as distinct ly as its unfitness to op erate them." WILLIAM CABELL BRUCE Says WILLIAM CABELL BRUCE, United States Senator from Maryland. i In ten years the national income of the people of the United States has increased from twenty-seven billion dollars to ninety billion dol lars. In the same period the out put of electric energy in the coun try has doubled twice. The secret of America's success is the secret of Am erica's product ive power. Wealth depends upon the power of human beings to pro duce; and electric energy today is multiplying the productive capacity of American workmen from four to forty fold. Providing this electric energy is a highly complicated business. The technical problems involved in building power plants and transmis sion lines large enough to care for public demand many years in ad vance have taxed the capacities of the world's greatest engineers. i Only because individual initiative has been given free play has the electric light and power industry been able to give America what is admitted to be the best electric service in the wiorld. Pacific Power & Light Co. Roy W. Ritner Republican Candidate for Congress l ''aw- Oregon has five lawyers at present in Con gress. Eastern Oregon is an agricultural district. Elect a man who for the last 20 years has been a farmer and thoroughly undersatnds and sympathizes with the prob lems of agriculture. Write in the Name Thus: X Roy W. Ritner (Paid Adv.) have had no other thought in mind than to give every matter coming before me thoughtful and honest consideration. The question was raised by the members of the "committee" of tax payers who visited the court last week why one Portland firm was receiving all the contracts for fur nishing road working machinery to the county; and in this connection it was intimated that myself and the .county road master must be getting a "rake off" from this firm on account thereof. To substan tiate this assertion, Mr. Mason of lone produced a letter which he claimed came from the representa tive of this firm, in which it was suggested that as purchasing agent for the city of lone he might re ceive a commission for buying some fire hose and a nozzle from cms firm. The evident Impression sought to be made was that this company had this habit of doing business, and therefore those county officials who had anything to do with the buying of road machinery and equipment were induced to turn the business to this firm because of the commission that would come to them. In looking over this letter, which was handed to the court for inspection, it struck me that it was not from the Howard Cooper peo ple at all, or their representative, but came direct from the people who had the fire fighting equipment to sen. I am sure of this, and I 3 Always . a square USED CAR deal from the TiuickDealer The Buick dealer is in business to stay. His future reputation depend upon his treating used car buyers fairly. He wants to please used car purchasers be cause he knows that satisfied used car cus tomers are prospective new Buick buyers. The man who buys a good used car hon estly represented at a fair price receives splendid value in transportation. In his enthusiasm for the car be has bought, and the value he has received, it is only natural for him to look upon the dealer as his friend. The Buick dealer has many such friends because he represents the true condition of the used cars he offers for sale. And that is good business for the Buick dealer, as well as the used car buyer. People who have known me all these years in Morrow county will understand that I am willing to stand on the record I have made as county commissioner, and such mistakes as I have to my credit I will have to stand up under, but I resent this implication and hope that my friends will also. HIATT & DIX Phone Main 1072 We Deliver Protect Your Investment in Your Model T Ford THE Ford Motor Company is making a new car, but it is still proud of the Model T. It wants every owner of one , of these cars to run it as long as possible at a minimum of expense. Because of this policy and because of the investment that millions of motorists have in Model T cars, the Ford Motor Company will continue to make parts until, as Henry Ford himself says, "the last Model T is off the road." More than eight million Model T Fords are still in active service, and many of them can be driven for two, three and five years and even longer. So that you may get the greatest use over the longest period of time at the lowest cost, we suggest that you take your Model T Ford to the nearest Ford dealer and have him give you an estimate on the cost of any replacement parts that may be necessary. You will find this the economical thing to do because a small expenditure may enable you to maintain or increase the value ofhe car and give you thousands of miles of additional service. 1 , No matter where you live you can get these Ford parts at the same low prices as formerly and know they are made in the same way and of the same materials as those from which your car was originally assembled. Labor cost is reasonable and a standard rate is charged for each operation so that you may know in advance exacdy how much the complete job will cost. Ford Motor Company Detroit, Michigan
