Benge, and Miss Gladys Benge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eph Eskelson, departed or Eu gene on Saturday to take up the work of the spring term at the U. of 0. The young ladieB were taken on their way as far as The Dalles by Mr. and Mrs. Benge. Reid Buaoick and Miss Mary Pat terson, who have been students at the U. of 0. for the past three quarters, will remain at home during the spring term, Keid having accepted work with the Alfalfa Lawn Dairy of Wightman Brothers. They intend to enter school again at the beginning oi the fall term. Anson Wright was in from Hard man on Tuesday. Ho is slowly recov; ering from a complication of tmnhloa having a spell of flu, complicated with whooping cough, the latter trouble being one of those diseases supposed to be incident to childhood, but Mr. Wright Buffered a rather severe at tack. Jim Stewart, who is with the Fed eral Land Bank, was attending to matters of business in this city on Tuesday. Mr. Stewart, ex-newspaper man and formerly editor of the Fos sil Journal, has made his home in Cor vallis for the past five or six years. The Misses Leta and Evelyn Hum phreys returned to Eugene on Fri day after having spent the Easter va cation season in this city with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hum phreys. fi. Good rains are general again over the county and the wheat fields and ranges are receiving a good wetting. ho far the grain fields never present ed a finer appearance in most parts of the county, and with seasonable showers the yield should be abundant. Fruit trees are practically in full bloom, being about a month ahead of usual and we hope not so soon that they may be nipped by the April frosts. However, as this has been a naason when the expected has not hap pened so far, we may look for April to be a pleasant month and free from killing frosts. Mr. and Mrs. Goodman of Portland, parents of D. T. Goodman of this city, are expected to arrive in Heppner the end of the week for a visit at the Goodman home. Mrs. D. T. Goodman is reported to be prorgessing nicely at the Morrow General hospital, after a serious illness. Regular meeting of American Le gion Auxiliary will be held on Mon day, April 5, in the new quarters. Members please bring donations for the Auxiliary shower. Hostesses will be Mrs. Paul Gemmell and Mrs. E. E. Gilliam. A loud speaker, connected up with the big radio set at the home of Dr. A. H. Johnston, has been installed in Morrow General hospital, and inmates are now entertained with programs coming in "on the air." Miss Henryetta Lawrence, teacher in the local high school, is reported well on the road to recovery from an attack of pneumonia at the Morrow tjoneral hospital. Ward spent Sunday in this city from the Ward ranch south of lone. She was a guest at the home of her sister, Mrs. Karl Farnsworth. Wm. Kcenan, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Orve Brown, has been spending a few duys in this city and enjoying a visit with old friends. David A. Baseball season opens at lone Sun day, April 4, with the Cayuse Indian team. The Cayuses beat the Pendle ton Blue Mountain Leaguers last Sun day, and are coming with the inten tion of adding another lot of scalps to their collection. The Cayuse In dians played teams in Wallowa, Un ion and Umatilla counties last year with great success and lost but two games in Umatilla. They are rated as a first class team.
