THE CAT The prize essay contest conduc ted bv the all Oregon 1925 exR- (nition commitee will close 0cf, 0 instead of Septemer 15 us previously anounced. The priz.-s fo the contest, which is op n to high school and grade school students of Ortgon, aggregate 200, divided equaly between the two divisions. Three prize?, $50, $30, $20, each, are offered for first, second, unb thir l place respectively in the hih Bihwl and grade school contests. The contestants will write on one of two general subjects: () Oregon-made products, or 2 the educational and cultural v ! ues of art. The new closing d; te for the contest i also the c'ts rig date of the All-Oregon 1925 I . position, to be held in the Civic Auditorium in Portland, Oct !.. r 5 to 10, which will feature 0 e- gon-made goodes and promote the cause of art in Oregon. The subjects on the tontest are designed to emphasize the the role plaved in the economic life of the state by Oregon mn- fa-'turies, and of tha importance f art in the life of theiommu- nity. A number of titles are sug gested by the committee as ppro priate for the essays, although the contestants are not resari ly restricted specifically to them. Anoriginal orstriking title which falls within one of the two gen eral heads mentioned above, may bean important factor in jurg ing the merits of an essay. The suggested titles are: 1. The economic Importance of Oregon-made goods. 2. Oregon's basic industries and their Relations to the Wei fare of the State. 3. The value of a State v ide Oregon Products Exposition. 4. Art as an Expression of the Characteristic Culture of the State. 5. Art as an Essential in the Education of a People. 6. The value of an Oiiental Art Exhibit to the PacifieCoast Essays must be written U ibly in ink or typewritten, dcuble spaced, and havo wiJe margins, The size of the paper should be 8i by 11 inches. One aide of the paper ouly shculd de used. The essays must not exceed 800 words and no essay exceeding 800 words Will be considered by the judges, All direct quotations ieed by the contestants must be enclosed in puotation marks. The essays must be in the hands of Secretary of the All- Oregon 1925 Exposition Commit tee, 651 Court House' Portland. Oregon, before the closing nate, October 10. The judges of the contest are: Judge Charles H. Carey, former president of the Oregon Writers' League; Antho ny Euwer, poet and illustrator; and Dean Eric W. Allen, of the Univtrsity of Oregon School of Junrnalism.
