When we can pay for public develop ment we should have betterments, but when taxes grow burdensome we must be content with the old ways un til we can do better. Homey Philosophy for 1922 There's so many millions of sane, kind people in the world, so many millions of crooks and no goods, and then there's the great crowd that's on the borderline. It don't much matter how they got there. All they're waiting for is a tilt to push them over one side of the fence or the other. Why not let the good fellows take 'em into camp by showing what joy there can be in life even without all the good things of the world. Paint ing pictures in the newspaper of the romance of crime with a moral that always shows the crook wins by re forming, simply tells the borderline bunch that they might as well try straighten things out, It's all adver tising, so let's advertise to get what we want all the borderline bunch into the real crowd of humans. Be Wise! Mr. and Mrs. Oral Henriksen and daughter Miss Anna Josephine are spending a few days with their par ents at Willow Creek ranch before returning to their Hamilton ranch. Miss Odile Groshens, her mother, also Mrs. Luper and several other ladies from the county seat were eaejWK-smc ettered Men know the power of knowledge. Knowledge is the truth about Persons, Places, Things. F'r instances: If yon had time to count all of the letters used by the printers of this page, you would find more "e's" used than any other letter. The letter "t" comes next, then "o," "a," "n" and so on with "z" least used. That is all very interesting, but not very val uable knowledge. However, the words these letters spell can prove valuable to you. In the news and advertising columns of The Gazette Times the regiments of "e's," "t's," "o's," "a V and "n's," tell both interesting and val uable messages every week if you will but read and profit. Mr. Benson may fill the pulpit here tem porarily. It is hoped this will be accomplished or the church thrown open to other denominations who are handling the work here quite satis factorily but under difficulties for want of suitable church building. Another T. B. test has been com pleted of the cows in this district. We understand there was no tuber culosis found here. We hear the next T. B. test will be on goats pre paratory to getting clean stock for the big goat ranch. This is no josh, we expect to hear of a big deal closed in the near future as negotiations are on for a tract of land. The only ap parent difficulty now in the way, is to find enough dried apples for the necessary balanced rations for the goats. Prof. Jamison of O. A. C. by ar rangement of C. C. Calkins, county agent, lectured on various subjects on the dairy business at Rieks' ranch at 2 p. m., Wednesday the 12th. He spoke mainly on breeding, this sub ject not being touched upon in his former lectures in Irrigon. On ac count of the very busy season the attendance was smaller than on other similar occasions. There was a light frost on the ground the morning of April 12th but apparently no damage to fruit crop or small garden truck is noted. The apricots are in full bloom and prom ise a record croo. Other fruits cept peaches all look good at this time. We seem to be in the favored class as the frost is reported much heavier in other fruit sections all around us. Mrs. M. E.
