His section had about 8 Inches of snow, only, during tho recent big storm. A. 11. Strait, who is conducting a ferry, or rather, who Is attempting to conduct a ferry over the Columbia at CnHtlo Hock, was up to Heppner this week. Ho 1b meeting with some diffi culty with the railroad company at present and has had the right of way to his ferry fenced up. He was In the city Tuesday to ascertain what he might do about It. Mr. Strait states that thore was fully 18 Inches of snow fell along the river during the recent big storm, which gradually disappeared and melted Into tho ground. Coal Vein to be Oprnrd I'p Horace Yoakum waB In town Tor k couple of days the first of the week. going back to his place on upper Wil low creek Tuesday afternoon. While in town he arranged to take out a little more equipment and some help land will push the work of opening up the coal vein on his place. The present : Indications are good and he Is anxious to find out Just what may Bhow up. It 1 Is not Improbable that Mr. Yoakum : has discovered a lead to a line bed of coal, and we hope that his prospects will develop into something substantial and paying. The coal so far taken out is pronounced to be of good quality 1 nnd burns well. llcv. W. O. Livingstone departed for Seattle, Wash., on Monday, where he j was in attendance this week at the Northwest Conference of Christian .ministers. He expects to return on i Saturday. Islington V- K. After tho business meeting was over a social good time was enjoyed by all those present. Animal Farm Bureau Meriina; The annual Farm llureau meeting for the purpose of electing officers and adopting a program of work for nept year will be hold Saturday, December 17th. Ward, manager of the Oregon Cooperative Wool Marketing Associa tion of tho West, has arranged to be present at tho Farm Bureau meeting which will be held on Saturday, Dec ember 10th In the I. O. O. F. hall. The Wool Growers association has made a splendid mark for Itself, get ting from two to eight cents better than the market price all along and It Is gaining In numbers rapidly. We previously nrranged for a moeting of the wool growers when Mr. Ward could be present but owing to conflict ing dates this had to be called off. We are epceptlonnlly fortunate In getting Mr. Ward at this time, and he will ad dress the assembly briefly here at Heppner and then will go to Pine City for a meeting In the evening.
