COX, Manager Judge Stapleton on Market Bill Co-operative marketing, such as has been successfully carried on in ' California, w as suggested as a remedy ! for work of the non-partisan league by Circuit Judge Stapleton in his talk on Thursday botov the Press, Club, on "The Non-Partisan League ( and Co-operative Marketing." Judge j Stapleton decried the practice of giv ing graduates of the agricultural j college positions as farm agents. In- i dustrial club leaders, and county ag-! riculuirists, before they have been j sent back to the farm to put Into practice what they have learned. "We're doing everything in ,the way of modern improvements for the farmer, except to aid him in market ing his produce," stated Judge Sta pleton. "Somebody is getting the profit, and we've overlooked the in terests of the man behind the plow. He realizes something must be done, and through the non-partison league he is being led to believe it must be done through politics." The speak er traced the growth of the league in the past two years, adding that he feared the hold it would get after the November elections, when plans are being laid for landslide meetings to "make an impression on the weak kneed." The advantage of the co operative system, according to Judge Stapleton, is that it provides a prof It for the farmer, organizes them, and leaves few middlemen. Portland Spectator. Slats' Diary. The farmer who hud his summer Callow free Crotu weeds when the fall seeding season arrived, was Indeed a fortunate fellow. We notice that a large number of farmers have en tered the fields with their drills, which proves that good farming is becoming the rule. At that, the la bor problem has been t handicap which the best of farmers have been almost unable to overcome. A man was speaking in behalf of Senator Harding the other day and someone arose with the remark that they believed the old man was crazy. Well, It such be the case, we ure hop ing there will be a lot ot "nuts" on or about November 2. The price of wool, or no price at ill, may be attributed to the present administration. Maybe not. But It will bo a hard situation to explain to local woolgrowers who saw foreign wool sold on the Huston market In preference to their own. In fact all producers in this country ure begin ning to look with more and more fa vor upon a strong protective tariff and the idea of "America First" Is milking a strong appeal. 3pr 7""'nw' .'
