J. E. Cronan, president of the Bank
of lone, was a visitor in Heppner on
Thursday last. Mr. Cronan speaks
well of business conditions in the
lone section the past season and is
looking forward to another good year
as he expects crop conditions to be
greatly improved.
W. H. Padberg disposed of fifty
head of mules the past week to Bob
Sundhenner, representing the Col
well Horse & Mule Co., of Colwell,
Idaho. vThe mules will go to fill an
army contract, it is understood, and
they were shipped out of Heppner on
Saturday night, going direct to St.
Louis. Mr. Padberg states that he
made a very satisfactory sale and the
animals brought good prices.

Discharged on Account of Sickness.
Robert H. Young arrived in Hepp
ner on Monday evening from Mare Is
land, Calif., where he has been in
training for the past six months as a
member of the U. S. Marines. Robert
has had Just about his share of sick
ness since entering the service, anc
was in the hospital a great deal of the
time. He sems to have been a victim
of the climate there and not able
to get used to the cold wind and fog
that is experienced every day in the
year. He is now greatly improved in
health, however, and thinks he will
be able to enter another branch of tht
service at the expiration of his dis
charge, which will be six months. Be
fore entering the service M Uncle
Sam, Robert was employed by the
National Biscuit Company at Port
land, and he returned to that city this
morning to take up his work with this
company again. He likes the service
of Uncle Sam, especially when the
boys are kept busy, and as he has
now received his preliminary train
ing he thinks there will be no difficul
ty in getting into another branch of
the military service and being sent to
the front in France, something he de
sires very much to undertake.

In assembling the singers and play
ers for revival of the famous song
play -Freckles" by Gene Strattou
Porter, an effort was made to obtain
a cast of artists fully the equal of the
original New York Company. The
Broadway Amusement Company be
lieves it met vith great success in
this, and with much satisfaction now
announces the following principals:
EARLE ROOME, from the original
New York Company, Is a young man
with a most pleasing personality. In
the title role he portrays the brave
lad, abounding in good humor, who
works his way to success against tre
mendous odds'. He has a tenor voice
of high quality and combines musi
cal and dramatic ability to an un
usual degree. Among his sang num
bers written specially for "Freckles"
are "The Girl I had in Mind" and "I
Never Knew What Love Could Do."
His rendering of "A Little Bit of
Heaven," "The Kerry Dancers" and
other Irish favorites won him much
praise with the New York show.
JUDITH RAEBURN, a popular
young Chicago society girl, with
youth, beauty, and ability won sud
den success three years ago with
press and public as prima donna In
Whitney's "IbIs of Spice" and was lat
er featured In vaudeville as "The
Girl with the Golden Voice." Through
hard study she developed dramatic
ability so rapidly that last year she
was given the title role in one of the
big dramatic successes of the season.
Charles E. Nixon, Publicity Director
Chicago Grand Opera Compaay,
writes: "Miss Raeburn is an actress
of a distinct and appealing type and
a singer whose dramatic soprano
tones are thrilling and enthralling."
Miss Raeburn as "The Swamp Angel"
is reneating her former triumphs.
BEATRICE LAMBERT, late of
Margaret Angltn's 'Company, has had
much experience in support of some
of America's greatest stars and also
played important parts in pictures.
In the role of that genial Scotch per
son, "Mrs. Duncan," she brings to the
part a cleverness in interpretation
that has not been equalled since the
New York production.
HARRY DICKESON, an actor of
rare ability, was a member of the or
iginal Coast to Coast production of
"A Modem Eve" and "The Flirting
Princess and as "Mr. Duncan" ren
ders the Scotch songs that are asso
ciated with this part in inimitable
manner.
PAT BUTLER comes from the New
York production of "Freckcles."
With a big singing voice, combined
with much dramatic power, he gives
a most satisfactory rendering of that
insistent enemy of "Freckles" known
as "Black Jack." He first visited the
West in the original production of
"Officer 666."
DARRELL H. LYALL, an exper
ienced actor and producer, is now in
his third season with the Broadway
Amusement Co.'s production. He con
tinues in the part of "The Man of
Affairs" and gives to it a dignity and
wholesoulness which carries out per
fectly Mrs. Porter's idea of the char
acter. AL SHAW is a musician of much
ability, having many original com
positions to his credit. He adds much
strength to the company from a musi
cal standpoint.

TERS are in the hands of capable
players, and form in all a singing and
acting company which the Broadway
Amusement Company pcints to with
pride.
THE SCENIC PRODUCTION is by
Crosby Gill, -of Wallack's Theatre,
New York, and is of unusual beauty
Two different views of the wonderful
Limberlost, regarding which Mrs.
Porter writes so vividly, are depicted,
one of which by the use of elaborate
scenic and electrical effects, shows
the rising of the morning mist in the
swamp and 'the coming of day.
"Freckles" which is a dramatiza
tion of the famous novel of the same
name, owes its great success as a play
to a happy combination of strong
dramatic story mingling pathos and
humor; a most pleasing musical score
introducing many song hits, and a
beautiful scenic production vlsuallz
ing accurately Gene Stratton-Porter's
description of the great Limberlost
with all its wonder.
Wax An Interesting Service.
The union services at the Christian
church on Sunday evening were in
the nature of memorial of the refor
mation under Martin Luther and ad
dresses were made by Pastors Mac-
Donald and Noyes, the latter giving
an illustrated discourse on the life
and times of Luther in connection
with stereopticon views. The speak
ers presented many points touching
on the great events in the history of
the church growing out of the life
and work of Martin Luther as per
taining to Protestantism, and withal
the services were very interesting and
entertaining.
