John Miller and Olaf Johnson of Morgan were Cecil visitors -on Sun day. Carl Yount and Wes McNabb, lone citizens, were visitors at Cecil Mon day. , Miss Roxy Yount of lone was the guest of Miss Georgia Summer for the week-end. George Milled spent Tuesday with Willow creek people selling meat and did a big business. Ellis Minor, accompanied by Wal ter Pope, autoed to Heppner Friday, returning Saturday. Jack Hynd' s "Bulck" was called on Sunday to take a heavy load of passengers across the sands. ArtMinor has bought the Keys land near Cecil. The sale was made through T. H. Lowe of Cecil. George Miller has presented his wife with a fine washing machine. It is driven by a gasoline engine. Mr. and Mrs. Art Minor and Miss Blanche Minor of Heppner spent a jay or two at their Cecil ranch last week. Jack Hynd's sheep left for their summer range in the mountains last ; Thursday. Bill Skinner is acting as ' camp tender. Jack Hynd, accompanied by A. Hendricksen and T. H. Lowe autoed ( to Heppner last Tuesday, returning , home Wednesday. I R. E. Blackman, superintendent of I Sunday school work, was a caller at Cecil Saturday. Mr. Blackman makes his home at Milton. I Henry Stender is busy hauling lumber for a fine new house which will be built on his ranch. It will be modern in every particular. George Miller, J. Osborn and Hen ry Streeter have been hauling the last of their wheat to the Cecil warehouse. The wheat was purchased by T. H. ; Lowe for M. H. Houser of Portland. Miss Minnie H. Lowe returned home Sunday from Sand . Hollow where she had been visiting 'with her aunt and uncles for the past few . weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hynd of Uklah and Hynd brothers of Rose Lawn, Sand Hollow, visited at "But terby Flats" Cecil, the residence of Jack Hynd, during the last week-end. A Red Cross meeting was called at Cecil hall for 3 o'clock last Sun day afternoon. A good crowd turn ed out but the speaker from Heppner failed to appear. Nothing daunted, however, a speaker was picked up from the crowd and the meeting pro ceeded in fine order. At' Zerolene. Leander Copple, of Hamilton who has been here for the past two weeks receiving medical attention, died" at the Bly Hotel Saturday morning. Mr. topple was born in 1860 and came to Morrow county about thirty five years ago, where he lived until 1911 when he came to Grant county and made his home with Elmer Sta them near Hamilton. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church Sunday moruliiiT, by Rev. Jones of Baker City. Re mains were interred at Long Creek cemetery. Long Creek Ranger. Hanson Hughes Builds., Hanson Hughes, prominent young merchant of Heppner has started the construction work on his new home in southeast Heppner. Mr. Hughes is building on a lot which he accquir ed some time ago. The house will consist of four rooms with bath and will be an attractive addition to the residential section of our city. Hen ry Johnson has the contract. Al Williams Buys Wood Yard. Albert Williams has purchased control of the fuel industry of Hepp ner. - He has bought both yards, N. A. Clark and Elmer Beaman retiring from the field. Mr. Williams has gained considerable experience in this line of business in former years and comes into possession of this business with the assurance to the public of Heppner and vicinity that they can expect courteous treatment and efficient service at all times. The business will be conducted in the future as the Heppner Wood Yard. Oscar Otto, local piano dealer, made a great reccord as a sprinter one day last week while on his way to Pendleton. Oscar ccame across a half-grown coyote and started off over the hills after him. He suc ceeded in catching the animal and as a result brought back a warrant from the Umatilla county treasury. M. A. Bates, who recently moved to Portland, was called back to Hard man the past week on account of the serious illness of his mother. He returned to Portland Tuesday. The condition of his mother Is not im proved. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Y. Wells left Heppner last Saturday for an exten sive auto tour of southern Oregon.
