Hughes and family are over from their home near Lone Rock. George Perry Jitenyed over from his Rock creek ranch Wednesday. George Lund has returned to the city after spending the summer on Hlnton creek. Wilfred P. Jones, prominent Port land citizen, made a business trip to Heppner Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Gordon of But ter creek were in the city Wednesday transacting business. Miss Florence Ralston has return ed from an extended visit with rela tives at Cottage Grove. Joe Slmas came over from Monu ment to attend the county lair, eaid he had a good time. Leo Gist, formerly of lone, came over from Bend to attend the Fourth Annual Morrow County Fair. Instone of Lena was an in terested visitor at the County Fair. Mr. Instone hs taken up a home stead in the Little Butter creek coun try. Dr. A. D. McMurdo reports the ar rival of an eight pound daughter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orve Brown in south Heppner last Thursday. The new residence of Henry John son on Baltimore street in rapidly nearing completion. This will add another home to our growing list of modern residences. F. W. Kehrli of La Grande was an interested visitor at the county Fair. Mr. Kehrli is in the employ of the Oregon Agricultural College .in their extension department Adam Knoblock jf Rhea creek was in Heppner seve.al times the past week looking ' for a woman to do house work. Anyone wishing a posi tion will de well to see Adam. Miss Evelyn Shipley will return to her home in Heppner after attending the Round-Up at Pendleton. She spent the summer at the home of her sister Mrs. Cora Knotts at Pilot Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jones and young son were in Heppner last week to attend the county fair. They live at Irrigon where Mr. Jones owns a forty acre tract under the irrigation ditch. L. J. Allen and Prof. C. C. Crawford left Wednesday for their home in La Grande after spending a week in this city. They will stop off in Pendle ton to take in the Round-Up, Mr. Crawford being a member of the La Grande Elks' Band, which has been engaged to furnish music for the Pendleton celebration. Robert H. Young and Leo Murphy left yesterday afternoon for Condon to attend the Gilliam County Fair. Mr. Young has been given charge of the street sports which will be held in that city during the three days. He had a similar position during the recent Fair held in this city. Two young couples were married Saturday evening about o'clock at the home of E. H. Kellogg. The contracting parties were, Otto E. Lea thers and Miss Hael .Coleman, and Henry Samuel Perry and Miss Leila Blanche Neel.. The two children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Monahan of tins city have gone to Condon, where they have entered the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy for the coming year. Chas. W. Shurte who has had charge of the Arlington creamery during the summer, cam up from the city on the Columbia to visit with his family during the Fair. Mose Ashbaugh, who formerly traveled for the Montestrelli Marble Works of Pendleton, was in the city this week. Mr. Ashbaugh now lives in Walla Walla, where he represents a monument house. Ray Drake and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Harvie Young of Eight Mile were Fair visitors in Heppner. Mr. Drake is running the Ernest Lundell ranch, and he has produced a bum per crop this year. Dr. A. K. Higgs, prominent physi cian, of Portland, who formerly liv ed in Heppner, was in the city last Saturday on business. While here he enjoyed a visit with his brother, Ernest Higgs of lone who was in the city to attend the Fair. Dr. A. D. McMurdo returned last week from the Greenhorn mountains, where he visited Dan Stalter at the Mayflower mines. He made the en tire trip in his Studebaker car. Dr. McMurdo returned with sbme of the natural wealth of that country, in cluding a fine buck deer and some excellent samples of quartz which Mr. Stalter is now minning. A party of Grant county people consisting of Emmett Cochran and wife, Otis Patterson and wife and W. White and wife passed through Heppner Tuesday on their way to the Uound-UD. Mr. Patterson, who is prominent attorney at Caynon, is a member of the Round-Up Associa tion advisory board. The Pattersons enjoyed several hours meeting their old friends while In the city. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Snyder of Grangeville, Idaho, have been visit ing the past several days at the home of Mrs. Snyder s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Cowlns In this city. Mr. Snyder has been engaged in the harness business in Grangeville the last three years, but has been forc ed to seek a lower altitude on ac count of his health. He will spend some time in Portland and may de cide to locate there permanently. N. C. Marsis, former well known Heppner citizen and Morrow County farmer, came up from Portland to judge the industrial exhibit at the Fair. Mr. Maris has been carrying on industrial club work the past few years under the supervision of the state superintendent of public in struction. He informs us that his son Homer, who taught for two years in the Lincoln high school in Port land, has entered the Oregon Agri cultural College to take a course in plant pathology.
