Edward F. Day, of Portland, is spending the week in Heppner on business. Tom Arnold and wife were in the city Wednesday from their Eight Mile home. Willard Blake and Ernest Higgs, prominent lone citizens, spent sever al hours in Heppner Wednesday. O. J. Cox. Rhea creek dairyman, was a business visitor in the city Wednesday. Arthur Harlow and wife arrived in the city Tuesday from their home at Parkers Mill. Born To Mr. and Mrs. John T. Lyon, of Hale Ridge, in Gilliam county, this week, a son. Spencer Crawford spent Sunday in lone at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vawter Crawford. F. Wallace Sears, editor of the Tnn Journal, naid HeDnner a busi ness visit last Thursday evening. W. L. Finley, the north Morrow county farmer, was a Heppner bus iness visitor the first or tne ween. R. F. Hynd, president of the Hepp ner Milling Company is in the city looking after his business interests. Neil Doherty, who farms north of lone, paid the county seat a visit on Monday and transacted business at the court house. J. A. Kiehn and R. E. He paid Heppner a visit on 'luesaay The funeral of the still-born baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jayne was conducted from the case underlay ing parlors in this city on Tuesday afternoon. Winnard was called to the Ernest Wyland home at Hard man Wednesday moVning on account of the serious illness of Mrs. Wyland He was accompanied rjy ivtrs. wy land's mother, Mrs. M. J. Devin of this city. Dr. G. E. Mills, veterinary surgeon, a recent arrival from Independence, has decided to locate in this city and is making his headquarters at the White Front Livery stable. Dr. Mills is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College. Ell R. Carpenter, of Newport, ar rived in Heppner Monday and went on to Eight Mile to visit with his bro ther who is postmaster at that place. Mr. Carpenter was clerk at the Pal ace hotel for several years before moving to the coast. Frank Evans, of Lexington, trans acted business in this city last Sat urday. Mr. Evans, who is success fully engaged in farming with his brother, Jeff Evans, reports the crop outlook excellent and says the ground contains sufficient moisture at the present time to insure a good crop. A carload of lumber for the new residence of C. L. Sweek arrived In the city Tuesday. Mr. Sweek is build ing on his Court street lot which he recently purchased. Dr. R. J. Vaughn is making preparations for the con struction of a dwelling adjoining the Sweek property. Both houses will be of the bungalow type. Hale & Yea ger have the contract of building for both parties. O. C. Stephens and brother J. E. Stephens of Hardman were in the city on Monday and Tuesday. The former, who lives on McKinney creek reports that his sheep shed fell down under the heavy weight of snow sev eral days ago, but luckily the crash occurred in the middle of the after noon while all the sheep were out in the open feeding. Mr. Stephens says that nearly all the farmers in the south end put in their crops last fall, which are now as far advanced as is grain in April during an average year. Mrs. Lillie Aiken, chairman of the committee which has in charge plans for perfecting an organization which will ultimately make Heppner the Crysanthemura City announces that a public meeting will soon be called to form an association and elect officers for the year 1916. According to Mrs. Aiken it is thought best to make a canvass of the town in order that more interest in the undertaking may be aroused, thereby, and that flower growers may be given an op portunity to order directly from re liable firms or through this commit tee for their crysanthemum plants. The committee has catalogues from both eastern and western firms. The Club, billiards and pool, has moved from the.Slocum building on Main street into the Palace hotel, formerly occupied by the Palace bar. John E. Maxwell, the candy maker, is preparing to move into the Slocum building by the first of the month. In the meantime that place will be thoroughly renovated preparatory to the Installation of an up-to-date con fectionary store, which Mr. Maxwell will establish. T. J. Matlock, of Heppner, Ore., who purchased the two great prize Poland China sows, Carnation 2d and Carnation 4th, from the vet eran breeder, Thos. Brunk, of Salem, Ore., has a very fine foundation herd started and will have quite a lot to turn -off this year. Mr. Matlock also purchased an unrelated boar through Mr. Brunk with which he is greatly pleased. Rural Spirit. E. J. Fox and Frank Gabler are en gaged this week in tearing down the old blacksmith shop just north of the Wilson hotel. The old , Masonic building will be moved onto this property in the near future, remodel ed and fitted up for offices of the Heppner Milling Company. Cyrus Aiken visited over Sunday In this city with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Aiken, and departed Monday morning for Salt Lake City, where he holds a position with a farm paper in the circulation depart ment. Percy M. Garrigues of Portland is visiting with old friends in Heppner this week. During the past two years Mr. Garrigues has traveled extensive ly, visiting South Sea islands, Aus tralia, New Zealand and other countries. Miss Ruth Hornaday, of Walla Walla, who has been visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs T. S. Hand saker, in this city, returned to her home in the Garden City this morn ing. S. E. Notson made a business trip to Lexington Monday and attended a meeting of the stockholders of the Lexington creamery, while in that city. Harry Jones came up from Port land last Saturday and went on out to the old home place In Jones can yon to spend a week. Jas. Sheridan is now living on the Jones ranch.
