Roberts that beat anything we have seen In Morrow county thus far. They were from the ranch of T. J. Matlock. The oats, of which Mr. Mat lock has 70 acres, Is 5 feet 4 inches high, and well headed. Making Rig Showing, The Heppner mining property lo cated six miles from the Thomas ranch on the Middle Fork of the John Day and owned by D. B. Stalter, of Austin is developing into a real gold mine according to W. H .Butler. But ler at one time worked on Canyon Mountain and was known here as an expert pocket hunter. For the last four years he has been at work on the Susanville property. His brother, M. S. Butler is visiting with him. There Is now about 2000 feet of tunnel work done on the mine and Mr. But ler says that there is a big ore chute which assays $2000 a ton free gold. The prospects are as encouraging as could be wanted or reasonably ex pected. Canyon City Blue Mountain Eagle. A man rambled Into a village cafe, selected a table, and told the attend ing waiter to bring him half a duck. Fifteen minutes went by, then anoth er flfteen,and yet another.
