Mr. and Mrs. Van Dyke have taken up their residence in part of the Dahorty house on Main street. Mrs. S. E. Notson of Heppner Is visiting this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Win. McMillan. W. E. Leach and family returned Friday from Rockaway beach after spending a few weeks rusticating by the seashora. Wllte Helms departed for his home Monday after spending the summer In the harvest field with his uncle, Jim Helms. Mrs. Delaney and Mrs. Geo. Flint .returned Saturday after camping for some days in the cooling shades In the Blue mountains. W. T. Campbell's threshing outfit camped in town two days repairing up before starting to the Sour Dough and Blackhorse country. There are lots of complaints about the condition of the roads. It is not to be wondered at when you see the number of big wheat teams hauling grain to the warehouses. . Miss Vesta Cutsforth arrived Sun- t ay after spending the summer with er parents in Southern Alberta, Canada. She is at present visiting her sister, Mrs. C. R. Pointer. Elmer McMillan and family de parted for Portland Thursday morn ing. Mr. McMillan has been ailing for some time and goes to the me tropolis for medical assistance. Wheat Is still on the raise at this place and seems to be no limit in prices yet. Some have refused 90 cents for BlueStera. This is a good price for wheat in the local market. Clark Davis and Geo. Broadley de parted Wednesday for their summer vacation. They expect to spend their time in the Coast Range moun tains west of Roseburg in Douglas county. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Burchell re turned to their home in Portland on Monday. They spent several days at their old home, 3 miles north of Lexington, also calling upon old friends and neighbors. Johnny and Jim Helms and fam ily went to the mountains a few days ago for huckleberries. They returned Saturday with "halo huckleberries. Bob Williams looked after the ranch while they were gone, Jim Brown, who accldently shot himself while hunting on the Slletz river a few days ago, Is at the pres ent time at Portland, and from late reports Is getting along very well and will soon recover. He was shot through the left lung just above the heart. His many friends here will be pleased to know that he will soon be well again. Institute Dates Are Fixed.
