DEVELOPMENT IRK TO BE G0NT1NUED That the policy of the Portland Commercial Club to continue the cam paign of the farm development thoughout the state is in high favor with the business in'ersets of the city is evidenced by the fact that among property owners of Portland the pres ent campigu has met with more prompt and favorable support than any movement of like nature that has been conducted in the past. A few weeks ago the Commerical Club set out to raise a fund of 1150, 000. to be expended in development work throughout Oreaon during the next three years and so successful has been the effort that at the present time the fund is well above the $100, 000 mark and it, is believed by those having the campaign in charge that the fall sum will be pledged within the next mouth, in the list of those who have given definite sums are 160 firms and individuals representing virtually every branch of business activity in the city. . During the past few years there has been no sign of the trouble." If your back aches if your kidneys bother you, don't simply ask for a Sidney remedy ask distinctly for Doan's Kidney Pills, the tame that Mr Berry had the remedy backed by home testimony. 50c all stores. Airmen are heuinnmg to pav more attrition to safety devices than was the case in the earlv history of avia tion and new devices for insuring the stubility of aeroplanes, for protecting the airman against injury in caso of accident, and for descending in safety J from a crippled or unmanageable machine are being developed through out the world. A spectacular test of one of the new safety devices was made in Cal ifornia on June 20, and is described in the Ausi'st Popular Mechanics Magazine. A young woman jumped from n aeroplane a, a height of more than 1,000 ft. and landed safely op earth without the slightest injury. The apparatus she used is kown as a "safety pack". It is a parachute of very thin but strong silk fastenei to a mesh made of Italiau hemo and so folded into a caovas case that it opens at the slightest pull The entire pack weighs but 11 lbs. and is designed to be attached to the shoulders of the airman or his passenger, ready for in stant use.
