Four hundred Eagle valley cattle were shipped the past week lrom Baker City to Seattle, A petition is being freely signed at Huntington to have that town anuexed to Malheur county. The Corvallis carriage works has , turned out its first farm wagon, and it is all of Oregon wood. captain K. 11. rarker, V com pany, Second regiment, at Eugene, lias resigned his commission. Lincoln county and the citizens of Elk City are jointly rebuilding tiie bridge at the latter place. McCulloch, .famil iarly known as Grandpa McCulloch died at his home in Ten Mile, Douglas county, Tuesday morning, aged ob years ana iu monius. He was a native of Tennessee and came to Oregon in 1853 from Iowa, raising a family of ll children, seven of whom survive him and are respected, residents of this state. The schoolhouse in Mabel pre cinct, about 23 miles northeast of Eugene, was destroyed by fire some time Thursday night. It is supposed the fire caught from defective flue, or the stove, as t'ne young people that evening ' had been in the room up to 10 o' clock rehearsing for an entertainment. The loss on tho building, school books, etc., will amount probably to $500 or MOO.
