robbed the graveyard near Harris
burg of its gate lock, and if the
theft is not sufficient offense to

Peyton caught a large eagle in
a trap on i tie ranch near Oakland,1
a few' days ago. It weighed 20
pounds and measured 7 feet from
tip to tip of its wings. It had
been carrying olTMr. Harris' lambs
and be was unfortunate iu trapp
ing it. The eagle was sent to
Morris Abraham, of Roseburg,
to be stuffed and mounted.

iarly known as Grandpa McCulloch
died at his home in Ten Mile,
Douglas county, Tuesday morning,
aged ob years ana iu monius.
He was a native of Tennessee and
came to Oregon in 1853 from Iowa,
raising a family of ll children,
seven of whom survive him and
are respected, residents of this
state.
The schoolhouse in Mabel pre
cinct, about 23 miles northeast of
Eugene, was destroyed by fire
some time Thursday night. It is
supposed the fire caught from
defective flue, or the stove, as t'ne
young people that evening ' had
been in the room up to 10 o' clock
rehearsing for an entertainment.
The loss on tho building, school
books, etc., will amount probably
