Kobody can tell exactly why, hut after yon have met 'her you turn away toennie other woman and ay, "Don't you Jike Miss Growenor?" Dow, the reason you like her la a subtile one; without knowing aH about her you feel just the sort of a girl she is. She is a girl who appreciates the fact that she cannot have the first choice of everything in the world. She Is the girl who Is not aggressive and does net And joy in inciting ag gressive people. She is the girl who has tact enough not to say the very thing that will cause the skeleton in her friend's closet to rattle his bones. She is the girl who, when you invite her to any place, compliments you by looking her best. And by-the-by, when you eome to think of it, isn't Bhe the girl who makes you feel she likes you, and therefore you like herT Ex. It is reported that an Atlanta lawyer dislocated his arm while making a gesture to emphasize his speech re cently. The man who sends his money a- broad should Buffer the embarrassment of not being allowed credit at home. Some people think the home merchant is simply a creature of convenience. When they want credit they obtain it from the home merchant; when they have money they send away for what they want. Ex. Early Tuesday moruing J. K. Whit ney, editor of theHerald, C. W. Watts, Edward Zeyss, Br. and Jr., D. D. Hackleman and Judge Htrahau, ar rived in Lebanon, stopping for break fast, on their way to the mountains on a deer hunt They were joined at this place by J. W. Guy and son Ed, Bill Lewis and Jack McMonagle. They intend going as far as Upper Soda, and say that it Is to be a regular old-fash ioned deer bunt. We wish them sue cess but predict that we will have tome big deer stories when they return. After reading the following from the Harrisburg Courier, Oregon farmers ought to feel contented: "8. R Sogers and family have been camped at Br. BaviB' hop yard since last Saturday. Mr. Rogers and bis people came fiom Furmas county, Neb., by team and were several weeks on the road. Mr. Rogers says he has come to make his home here and doubted not that he would like this country. He informed ne that their only fuel In that part of the country is corn. From over a hun dred acres of wheat, two years ago, he harvested fifteen bushels, and that had to be cut with a mower and raked by hand. Last winter his stock at one time bad to remaiu three days without food or water; the stables were only a few rods from the house, but a blizzard of such magnitude was raging that It was absolutely impossible for any one to be out of doors, even for an Instant. Is it any wonder that Mr. Rogers be lieves he will like Oregon and ber cli mate?" A Pendleton gentleman who has just returned from the Grande Ronde valley is authority for the statement that the farmers of that section of the state will resist the collection of debts, if commenced before wheat appreciates in price. They complain that wheat brings from three to four cents less in La Grande than In Pendleton. With the highest market price there at thirty Rents, tbey argue that they are justified in demanding an indefinite extension of time. They will act jointly in the matter, first asking for consideration at the bands of the cred itor class. Should there be any ten dency to "crowd the mourners" they will march in a body, or by proxy in the shape of a committee of represen tative farmers, to the county court houses and Inform the sheriffs and deputies that attempts to serve attach ments and executions will be met by the most earnest protests. And any move towards telling under execution will be the signal for a small-sized re bellion, in which words will be scarce, and not cold, but hot lead will predominate. Bherllfa Sals.
