r The Scio Tribtltld General News SANTIAM FARM NEWS Î July 8 The old man pulled in home Sat urday evening after a few days visit to Monitor and Portland, where he took in the sights, as it was his first visit to Portland in past ten years, finding all well and prosperous and enjoying life. With a crowd of re lation we celebrated the Fourth five miles east of Scott's Mill, having a time such as vou read about in th* good book where they killed a Jar- sev bull, and had ice cream calore and all wanted more. John Swan and wife of Portland drove up to the Richardson Gap hall and greatly enjoy- d the F jr ,> t among the country people. • Delbert Yergen. wife and tw> sons of Butteville pulled in to our : celebration at the big hall, having . quite a time and enjoying life; re turning to the Santiam farm in the afternoon, also Mr and Mrs Swan, where they had a fine time till over Sunday. The old man. while out on his va cation visited hir daughter. Mrs.lda Graham, and family of Elliott Prai rie. near Monitor Also visited his niece, Mrs Inex Stoddar I an I his son. Grant Teeters and wife of the Chemawa Indian school came up Tuesday to visit her grandmother. Mrs S W, Gaines, returning home Wednesday. Mrs. Teeters is a daughter of Al Mtinkers of Scio. Mrs John Hartle’', two sons and daughter called Sunday fur a supply of cherries, as they are quite ripe. Art la-ttenmaier and wife called in Sunday afternoon for cheir.es and a social chat. Mrs Milligan and three daughters dropped in Sunday for a short visit with her «unt and three cousins. Our good neighbors. Ed Kalina, wife and son. Raymond, came in late Sunday for to renew old ac quaintance with some old frit nds. all having a hog-killing time, the same as when we were a boy. Coral Lucas* youngest s»n met with a «erious accident last Tuesday when he fell from the hay loft onto a sharp picket, which cut a bad gash in his breast It required several stitches to close the wound. He was removed to the hospital. Last reports say he is getting along as well as could tie expected. James Piatt of Scio was around Monday selling medicine and ex tracts. as he is not able to work. Mr. McCarter, whom she had not seen since he was 15. Mrs. Fares is 85 years old and made the trip alone; was two days and one night on the road. Melvin Donald Smith. Alvin Smith and Chester Tempest of Portland ar rived at the Leonard Gilkey home Monday. The bova are camping on the batiks of Thomas creek, where the Smith brothers camped two years ago. They are enjoying an outing, and are in search of work. Melvin attends the blind school in ■ Salem, where he is doing good work, and plans to become a lawyer'.
