The old man pulled in home Sat
urday evening after a few days visit
to Monitor and Portland, where he
took in the sights, as it was his first
visit to Portland in past ten years,
finding all well and prosperous and
enjoying life. With a crowd of re
lation we celebrated the Fourth five
miles east of Scott's Mill, having a
time such as vou read about in th*
good book where they killed a Jar-
sev bull, and had ice cream calore
and all wanted more.

Delbert Yergen. wife and tw>
sons of Butteville pulled in to our
: celebration at the big hall, having
. quite a time and enjoying life; re
turning to the Santiam farm in the
afternoon, also Mr and Mrs Swan,
where they had a fine time till over
Sunday.

Also visited his
niece, Mrs Inex Stoddar I an I his
son. Theodore, in Portland, finding
them all fine, Mrs Stoddard has a
fine home at 158 Idaho street,
Theodore took his father over the
town to view the sights of the city

They will go to Yaquina the last of
the week to spend ten days, when
they will return to their home at
Freswater. where they own a fine
fruit farm. He sold his crop of
Bing cherries before leaving at 18c
per pound, but had only about half
a crop.

Dal'as pulled in at the Santiam (arm
Saturday afternoon. He returned
h->me Sunday, but Mrs Lovejoy will
remain a week with her mother.

When the Pie Eater returned home
he found all well and everything
floating along like a leaf on the
stream, with a house full of friends
and relation, with Curtis Griffin and
jewel wife making everybody happy,
so the old man felt like he was in
heaven.
John and Elmer Griffin drove uo
from Salem Saturday. Johnny re

inaimng until Monday. Johnny re-
port« that three of his convicts at

dropped in Sunday for a short visit

Our good neighbors. Ed Kalina,
wife and son. Raymond, came in
late Sunday for to renew old ac
quaintance with some old frit nds.

same as when we were a boy.
Coral Lucas* youngest s»n met
with a «erious accident last Tuesday
when he fell from the hay loft onto
a sharp picket, which cut a bad gash
in his breast
It required several
stitches to close the wound. He
was removed to the hospital. Last
reports say he is getting along as
well as could tie expected.
James Piatt of Scio was around
Monday selling medicine and ex
tracts. as he is not able to work.
Ed Kalina went up to Dr. Ros-
•ine’s for a load of fall oats to s»w
this fall, as he fears they will tie
scarce and high. He paid 60c per
bushel.

Mrs J<weph Fares of Park City,
Utah, arrived over a week ago at
the R. H McCarter home to help
care for her invalid nephew. Mr.
McCarter, whom she had not seen
since he was 15. Mrs. Fares is 85
years old and made the trip alone;
was two days and one night on the
road.
Melvin Donald Smith. Alvin Smith
and Chester Tempest of Portland ar
rived at the Leonard Gilkey home
Monday. The bova are camping on
the batiks of Thomas creek, where
the Smith brothers camped two
years ago. They are enjoying an
outing, and are in search of work.
Melvin attends the blind school in
■ Salem, where he is doing good work,
and plans to become a lawyer'. The
bovw say they want to stay here ail
summer.
