All of them so far an yet heard from are haM-'l upon state bond issues. In the light of the ex|x*nencr the road bonding act of two year» ago has given ua and the arbitrary plan» of the state roada commission in aelling the bonds and expending the money, the people outside of Port land and the Columbia river coua- lie* are not friandly to bond issues We have given up the* automobile license money to thia good roads proposition; have had our roads des troyed by autos at home, and others running up and down the state, but In order to got any benefit from the >6,(MM),(MM) tiond issue we must run down to Portland to take a ride on the Columbia highway which our money has h> Ijied to build. The people generally and in Linn county in particular are opposed to becoming obligated for the payment of bonds unless we have some of the lienetila. We think our own roads are of more importance to ua at least than are the joy riding roada up and down the Columbia river. Wo urn* <>ur roads, such as they are. for business purposes as well as for joy riding and we insist that our money at least shall be expended on roads which are of some benefit tn ourselves So we object to any road plan which involves a bond is sue which docs not inure to our lienefit in aome measure. The people of Linn county are willing to vote bonds and are willing to buy bonds providing the bonds they buy the proceeds of which are expended on Linn county roada. Hut they will not vote bonds and have the money turned over to a Portland road commission to spend the proceeds wheresoever such com mission elects to expend it. The IS,(MM).(MM) bond iasue will be practically exhausted this year As yet Linn county has not had a cent of benefit therefrom though we have given up 110.000 or more of our automobile license to the scheme. We simply have the promise of ten miles of hard surface road leading from Jefferson to Albany. Let ua hope we get this favor from the commission for the 1200,000 to 1300.- 000 we will be Compelled to pay of the bond issue We feel that thia ahort atrip of road is coating ua more than double what we ourselves could build it for. Therefore Linn county will oppose another bond issue, aa she did the >6.000.000, unUa. she worth nearly two and one-half dol- at its next arsdon as an indication lars in greenbacks.
