Among the things to be taken into considera tion in the preparation of ll.e copy are the headlines, illus trations. type, the space, cla- of people to bo reached, sea on of the year, etc. The first purimse of the copy is to attract and inter est. through construction and arrangement. That is. the advert iser must, so pre pare nis copy as to draw the attention of the reader away from the news matter long enough to make an impres sion on his mind so he will want to know more of the stihieet matter. IL- should make the copy so aftractive ns to comjH-l the attention of the reader, for the reader buys the paper to read the news, not the ads. The attention of the reader can best be secured by a proper arrangement of the copy before ¡»la ing it in the hands of the printer. In ar ranging copy the advertiser should take into considera tion tin- w hite space to be filled, tyja- faces and sizes, etc. A matter of es ential im- portance in the ¡¡reparation of the copy is not t«> have the space overcrowded, as this materially effects the at tractiveness of the ad. The advertiser can guard against this by preparing a "dum my'’ of his copy. He will find by personally laying nut the copy and arranging the type mutter, etc, his ads will be much more attractive, and if the ads are convinc ing, much more effective. Another very im|x>rtant matter for the advertiser to bear in mind is that good copy in a ¡«per at one place at a certain time may not l»e good copy in another paper at anotner piace at another time.
