October 11, 8:00 to 8:30pm Repeats October 14, 1:00 to 1:30am & 6:00 to 6:30pm Oregon Public Broadcasting Watch “Art Al Fresco,” an episode of Oregon Art Beat focusing on the Portland Japanese Garden (pictured), Lan Su Chinese Garden, and Oregon Garden. Dedicated in 1961 and completed in 1967, the number of visitors to the Portland Japanese Garden has grown from 30,000 to nearly half a million each year. Its meticulous maintenance and ingenious design have earned the garden international recognition as the best example of a traditional Japanese garden design outside Japan. Portland’s Lan Su Chinese Garden is considered a beautiful example of a Suzhou-style scholar’s garden. Its design allows appreciation of the five elements — architecture, poetry, plants, water, and stone — from every vantage point. Finally, during the summer of 2017, thousands of people descended on the Oregon Garden in Silverton, Oregon, to witness the eclipse amid natural beauty and art installations. In the display, the artist combines her long interest in architecture and geometry as a subject in her work with a focus on the modernist building of the International Style.
