CHICAGO.—A new transmission
system by which both television
; and pictures can be sent simul­
taneously over a common radio
link was described here.
The system was described as the
first commercially available means
of sending both sound and video
over a common TV radio link, and
one which cuts out noise and fad­
ing and gives better tone to the
sound. It is being tested for com­
mercial TV use.
Under present methods, picture
and sound are sent separately—the
picture by coaxial cable or a radio
link, the sound on high-quality tele­
phone wire.
The new system may be used
with FM radio links or with tele­
vision cable circuits, eliminating
the need for the telephone lines.
The report was made by engi­
neers of the Federal Tele-Com­
munications Laboratories, Inc., &
unit of International Telephone &
Telegraph corporation. The paper
was prepared f o r . delivery to an
engineering conference of the Na­
tional Association of Broadcasters.
