The Oregon Shakespearean Festival board of di­
rector* met Monday a t the L ithia hotel ballroom t o
discuss the 1950 festival. John Cotton, president, says
th a t interest is high even though the opening of the
dram a program is more than a m onth away. He said
m any individuals and groups have already volunteered

gigantic Ju ly 2, 3, and 4 celebration which m em bers of
the Ashland Riding association say will be the biggest
Independence day observance here in 25 years.
M ayor Phil S tan sb u ry will be gran d m arshal of
th e big w estern parade which will open activities on
Ju ly 4. All m ounted organizations in the area have been
asked to particip ate in the parade and th e grand e n try
event of the 10th annual rodeo and horse races. The pa­
rade, which will s ta r t prom ptly a t 9:30 a.m. will consist
entirely o f horses, mules, donkeys, burros, Shetlands
and ‘‘kindred livestock,” according to the com m ittee in
