' Since th disastrous fire on the East Bide water-front last Saturday night, bus iness men on Front street have been very uneasy and are' unanimous in their spin Ions that the City of Portland cannot much longer delay the building of a fire boat 'The grain market Is decidedly strong to day, the stocks In tha hands of the mill ers being rather small and tha new crop being quite a way off. A rise In tha Quo tations on flour la expected any day.' A change will be noticed today In tha quotations on the best Burbanks, ' tha prick ranging from 0 cents to St a cental. Old potatoes are a drug on the market, and a large amount of them are going to waste ' In the hands of the farmers who held them too long in tha hope of a better quotation. California flat Dutch cabbage ts quoted lower today. At 19 cents a doxen, eggs are sjLUl sell4 tng fairly well Receipts today are very small, and It would, not be surprising If they will go up as high aa 20 or I2V4 cents a doten wholesale. At tha present tlma they ara selling retail for 2G cents. Poultry Is not arriving: In so large a quantity as formerly, and a consequent stiffening In quotations will b4 noticed today.
