Chamberlain has a sufficient majority over the' Republican candidate to Insura his election's Governor of Oregon and the politicians are now busy examining the records of the Vote in the different counties in the endeavor to find out how It happened.1 Qrant County, which or dinarily is heavily Republican, has giv en Furnish a 'majority of but one vote and Malheur, generally, strongly Demo cratic, h&4 yielded Chamberlain a ma jority4 of but 'twelve :- In Umatilla. Furnish's home county, he was badly beaten. Chamberlain leading him by 269, while that old Republican stronghold.. Marion, registered its protest against the, poetical assassination of Geer by turning a normal Republican ma jorlty of 700 to. a majority of S22 for the people's candidate for Governor, thus turning over C00 votes. On the other hand, Clackamas, which was expected to be close, gave Furnish a plurality of S47, due, doubtless, to the efforts of that smooth politician, George C. BrowneU,' who despite the moat de termined opposition, won out for State Senator by over 600. For Congressman, both Tongue in the First district, and Williamson in the Sec ond, with malorltles of 6,000 and 8,000 re spectively. are only what was expected The heavy vote polled by Geer over Wood for United States Senator has been a surprise 4o the politicians, he having received the endorsement of a very large majority of the voters of the state for the position, to whJch .be aspires and a subject of animated discussion at pres ent is whether the next Legislature will dare to disregard the expression of the people in this matter.
