Sheriff Judge Is a C andid:’, tv’ R epublican N om ination County Judge To the voters o f W ashington County, for your approval 1 submit the following statement: 1 have been a farmer and taxpayer of Washington county for over forty years. I f nom inated and elected County Judge, 1 will p erform the duties o f my o ffice to the best o f m y ability. 1 will at all tim es keep the interests o f the taxp ayers forem ost in m y mind. It w ill be my purpose to place the cou n ty on a cash basis and to keep it on such a cash basis. X will furnish m y ow n autom obile for m y public business and will person ally bear the cost o f its maintenance. My record as C ounty Judge from January, 1925, to January, 1931, speaks fo r itself. A t the time 1 took o ffic e in January, 1925, the w arrant indebtedness o f the County w as around *170,000. W e kept the business o f the C ounty up and at the end o f the year, 1925, had the in debtedness o f *170,000 wiped out. The State T r a ffic D epartm ent was bring ing in to the Court every day vio lators o f the law while at the pres ent there is no speed law and no one is brought in w hich m akes a d ifferen ce in the am ount o f fines turned in to the Treasurer's o ffice. Ow ing to the general depression there is no m oney in circu lation and offen d ers are unable to pay their fines. F or that reason we have m ore prisoners than in form er years and our jail facilities have in creased from 24 to 150 capacity. D uring m y adm inistration we have decreased the cost o f Keeping pris oners from *1.00 to approxim ately 38 cents per day and the prisoners in cu r charge care fo r the lawn and do part o f the ja n itor w o rk w ithout ex- Cra cost to the County. Som e people seem to have the idea that before an o ffic e r should m ake an arrest he should take the o ffe n d e r dow n roll him to see L he has any m oney to pay a fine and if he has not to turn him loose, This is N O T my policy. 1 have al- w ays endeavored to do my duty as 1 saw it. 1 have at all tim es tried to keep people out o f trouble which in my opinion is where an o ffic e r FOR C O U N T Y C O M M IS S IO N E R T o the V oters o f W ashington County.
