Now Working Overtime Blackmailing Mining Companies. The Xorth American Miner, published in Now York, says editerially: A finan cial journal, published under theshadow of Wall Street and saturated with the pious tenets inculcated in the fatuous schools for righteousness situated in the midst of the sacred places of thnt neigh borhood, in a lato issue sounds a note of solemn warning against mining methods and the snares and pitfalls which lie in wait for the Investor. It is enough to throw into convulsions the most solemn visaged donkey that ever drew breath to hear the exponent of the tricks and methods of Wall street preaching mol ality of investment and telling the in vestor to take heed how he place his money outside of Wall street. One would suppose there had never been a poor lamb skinned and carved and eaten, his Very bones thrown to the fertiliser, by any of the ravenous wolves who in fest the financial districts of Wall street. Beware those wicked mining men. Come into Wall street to hear probity and be eaten. The same paper, in another column, gives the following incident to demon strate how these "financial" papers op erate : The following is taken from a late issue of an alleged "financial paper' published in Denver, and has reference to the Richmond Mining ceu.pany: "Chicago, III. This company refuses to make a report of the condition of the proierty ; Messrs. Wheeler A Co., for mer fiscal agents, also state that no in formation can be gained from the com pany as to condition of property. An inquiry addressed to Win. Alpherson, care Hotel Brunswick, Moncon, New Brunswick, Canada, also failed to bring resjsinse. This property will be listed hereafter in the Insipid List." What the company has "reTused" to make known to this sheet we do not know. The statement that we, as for mer fiscal agents, stated that "no infor mation can be gained from this company as to condition of property" is an un mitigated falsehood. We never had a communication from this sheet with reference to the Richmond Mining coin- p.iny or any thing else, nor have we ever made any such statement as it at tributed to us. It is also stated that a letter was sent to an olllcer of the com pany, addressed to a town in New Brunswick, Canada. In the first place, no such town exists; in the second, the address of the company is 32 Broadway, New York. In the advertising columns of the same sheet apcars the advertise ment of the "American Mines Annual," which gives the address of the Richmond Mining company as 32 Broadway, New York. This Denver paper has apparent ly not even taken the trouble to look up the address of the company, though it is ii a book advertised in its own col umns. And this is a specimen of the accuracy and knowledge shown by one of these hraseu sheets "timinrial paH'rs" so called, regarding a mining company. This much may be said: Probably the sheet never had so much as an inquiry. Most of their "inquiries" are purely imaginary letters or dictated from their own otllce, and have no real exfstence whatever. The baker's dozen of ieople who read this class of piiHr.do so more for a certain curious form of amusement than anything else. Xolssly looking for reliable information any longer pretends to go to a financial journal of this class for it. He knows full well that the "information" he gets, such as it is, de pends entirely Usiu whether the com pany has consented to I si "bled" or not by the sheet in question. The caso of the Richmond Mining company is a fairly representative one. It shows in the paHM making it that degree of maliciousness, ignorance and mendacity usually charaeteriising the ''reports" of these wholly unreliable and contemptible public leeches, who are a disgrace to common paper and printers' ink.
