The Grizzly group consists of the "Colorado" and the "Colorado Extension" quartz mineral claims,
situated in the Sumpter District of Baker county, Oregon, six miles northwest of the town of Sumpter, form
ing part of trie rich mineral zone wherein are located producing mines of fabulous wealth, such as the
"North Pole." "Columbia," "Golconda," "Bonanza" etc., etc. Development work on the Grizzly group
has disclosed a gold bearing ledge of remarkably high value, development work has progressed and there is
every reason to expect the property will become one of the greatest mines in Oregon.

Sam II. Hayes came in from Prairie
City last Thursday with ten tons of ore;
the first iuslallmentof n lot to the smelter
ifrom the Quartburg district, taken from
th Oregon-Colorado mines, of which lie
lias recently come into possession.
Mr. Hayes has a ten stain mill on the
way here to be hauled to the same district,
where he will have it erected on the Don
Sauclio claim, another recent acquisition
that has great merit mid Iroin which many
thousands ot doll. us has already been
"gophered," hut under Mr." Haves' direc
tion will-likely be made a mine of as soon

The most Haltering reports are being
received at the office hi this city ot the
Red Hoy Hill (ink! Mining company,
owning a group ot claims closely adjoining
the well known Red Hoy mine. Tunnel
No. 1 is neatly too feet on a crosscut to
cut the ledge that shows on the Mil lace to
be 60 feet in wlJth. The tunnel Is in ore,
the vein showing a width wider than the
tunnel, which Ls 6S leet. I he ore runs
Irom $12.40 to 5m. js to the ton. I'here
is ore enough in sight to keep a tnt-Miimp
mill running tor ve.tr: and the company is
now perlecliug its plans to elect a mill ol

Bur K'lled At Finger's Road House.
Joe Pierho, who conducts the roadside
resort near the summit on the Granite
road lor Henry Pinger, is much "putted
up" over the killing of a good sized bear
cub last week, which had untorttiiiately
strayed into the vegetable garden fu the
rear ot the house. Joe thinks bruin was
alter one of his pet monkeys, or white
rats, ot w hich he has a large collection in
training and which he expects to Introduce
to the public 111 time.
J. M. Martin' Health Improving.
The triends ot J. M. Martin will be
glad to learn that he Is rapiJIy regaining
his health at the St. Martin's springs at
Cars mi, Washington, on the Columbia
river near Astoria, where he gets the bene
lit of the salt water breezes and the medi
cinal qualities of the spring waters. Mr.
I Martin is the associate of J. J. Hennessy
in the successful operation of several
I mining properties near Sumpter, and left
here a few weeks ago in search of health. ,

U. S. Geological Surveyors Here.
A party of U. S. geological surveyors
were camped on the Vinson addition for
several davs last week, from which point
' they were working In this vicinity. The
1 party consisted of 1.. C. Pletcher engineer
1 in charge, his assistant, J. Gerdlne jr., I..
