ever it may be .that apparently almost anything can be put

On national committees. In Congress or in any othet
department of government, 'citizens should be - elected to
serve, regardless of sex, for their qualifications to fill those
particular offices. If a. given man is better qualified, he
should be elected. If a given woman is better fitted to oc

should be given. There are jobs in the country peculiarly
in need of women to carry them out. There are others bet
ter turned over to men. '
To make any poltical demands for women as women,
and not as citizens, would be to go back a generation.

That is the question suffragists used to ask, making its
answer the foundation for their demand for the ballot. They
are now being given the ballot, and sex as an issue in politics
ought to drop out of sight forever. The action of the Oregon
Legislature Monday put the women of the country one step
nearer the polls. -
Women are people. Tfyey are citizens. They have equal
rights with men in the matter of electing officers and mak
ing laws.
