Hockeminith lion STEAMERS MAY RESUME ROUTES River Transportation Hoped for Soon to Cut Freight Costs That Albany may have better ship ping facilities at a lower rate of transportation and with truck haul ing freight Into Albany and Corval lis is stated by the last issue of the Gazette Times as follows: It is not improbable that the people of Corvalis will soon hear the tooting of the Ore gone snd Pomona as those well-known vessels ply the raging Willamette on regular trips as far up the river as Hsrirsburg, and con necting with the Rose City at the oth er end of the line. According to announcement in the Portland p peers, a new company has been formed to take over the holdings of the Oregon City Transportation Company, this to be known as the In land Empire Boat & Truck Company, and it is reputed that the company, which is filing articles of incorpora tion today, will operate a truck ser vice from each station touched by its boats. 1 Th Incorporators are: J. A. Smith, William J. Mariner, both of Gillia county; E. W. Haines of Washington county; Captain A. B. Graham, M. E. Lee and M. M. Lee of Portland. Steamers to Burn Oil The steamers are to be fitted as oil i burners immediately and It is hoped ! to commence operations by the first of March. The Oregona and Pomona will be operated on the Willamette river and the Grahamona and another steamer on the Columbia will go to: Pajsco and Kennewick and those op erating on the Willamette will go up as far as ilarrisburg when possible, making Salem during all months of the year, Mr. Lee said. The truck service will operate out of all the important points touched by th steamers, according to Mr. Lee. Present plana Include the operation of trucks out of Corvallis, Albany, Salem and Dayton on the Willamette. On the Columbia there will be a truck circuit Including Goldendale, Brickle ton, Roosevelt, Arlington, Wasco, Grass Valley and Moro., and another including Umatilla, Pendleton, Walla Walla, Pasco and Kennewick., .
