GERMANS MUST BUY AMERICAN COTTON Hijfh Prices Make Germang Shudder, But Must Pay Just the Same Berlin, Sept 23 (By th Assoeiav ated Press) American cotton tuust b bought by th German at any coat in th opinion of German textile experts, though they groan when thejr think of th prices. The expert estimate that American cotton will cost in Get many about nine and-half marks for the German pound which i somewhat price is in part owing to the low ex change value of the German mark 'which before the war was norm any. worth about 24 cent. I Some little American cotton has been landed at Bremen, especially sine it has become possible to send orders by wireless and thus avoid delay of five days or more in cabling by the way of England. Expert say the A m eh cans are anxious to do business directly with Germany and to avoid a ny interference by the British but bills of exchange is a serious handicap for it prevents the importation of much cotton from America through fear of looses by exchange. I Nevertheless, the trade writer . point out that English factories al ! ready are producing cotton goods in the occupied district of Germany and they agree that if Germany is not to be overwhelmed by expensive English j goods which thus would" obtain an op , ening foothold in German markets. Germany nrut have American cot ton no matter what it has to pay.
