Established in 1865 FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 1919 LET US CELEBRATE linn Why ihould there be io much hesi tation and delay in fram'-g ip a routing celebration for the Fourth of July? Not a mere celebration, but a reception to the soldiers, tailors and marinea who offered their Uvea for us and are now back with us again. At least those who are already back. It is the very least we can do. They offered their lives. Seme Linn county lads gave their all. So.ne came back maimed for life. All gave valuable time and suffered hardships and priv ations. There should be some way of show ing our collective appreciation of their services. A monster reception to every Linn county man and woman who served would show, in a degree. this appreciation. It is really a county affair and the idea of the committee in making it a real county celebration was the right i idea. But the county court haa not seen fit to appropriate money for this purpose, and it is now up to the peo ple of Albany alone. Let us dig into our pockets ana give ss much as we are able. Let us pui on the best celebration of Victory and Reception to the men who helped to attain it that we are able.' Let us do something, if it is nothing more than a barbeque in Brant Park and a few firecrackers to remind ua that July Fourth waa the greatest day in American history. We fought for Independence for this country in 1776. In 1917-19 we fought for the Independence of the world. Could a more propitious time been chosen tha nthia year! Neverl Let us celebrate. Illt- Irt Melbourne and Sydney, Austral ia, the Salvation Army has opened Aged Women's Retreata., The war department reports that the American army during the war cost the country about $14,000,000,000. And if we had another such big war to fight, we'd certainly ne willing to give just as much for another such army. NEBERGALLS PAY $100 FOR ONE FAT HOG M. Averhoff of Lebanon R. F.
