It is a little odd, to say the least, when American tin-plate mills in the columns of republican newspapers are as thick as man ufacturing lobbyists in Washington' when the tariff is to be revised it is a little odd under such circumstances tiat the volume of imports of American tin plate should be steadily ris ing. The McKinley schedule for tin plate went into effect July i of this year. .During July loo.ooo pounds of Welsh tin" plate paid duty at flie Chicago custom-house. In Aug ust 295,600 pounds were entced and in Sep tember 638,510 pounds, or almost as much as was imported in June, when importers were straining every nerve to get. stocked up before the McKnley gaie was shut.
