An examination of the fcport of City Surveyor Barr elsewhere. jiving the new sewer system of the city, 111 show that the whole city is well covered, and on the face, It looks as If the Surveyor had done a good job. The cost bf sewers up to date has been approxi mately $27,000. To complete !he system It will cost about $25,000 according to the report, making a total cost ot about $52,- 000, a very reasonable pries for a system fcr a city like Albany. iWiLL Locate is Albany. J E Adcox, 10 jewelcr.who was formerly doingbusi ess in Salem, has decided to locate in Albany. Mr Adcox went to Fair tlaven and was there robbed of almost his entire rock of jewelry and watches. This was hard blow on him, but with his energy and efficient work as a repairer and deal er he will soon recover from the loss. Salem Journal. Lost His Teeth. A gentleman pres ent at the council meeting became so In :erested in the bridge motions being made ind the attendant excitement, that he lost lis false teeth, just how Is not known, but t Is thought he absent-mindedly placed :hem in a pocket, and that a friend or foe clayed a joke on him. . - St'DDES DEATH .Mr Cannon, proprie tor of the Occidental Hotel, at Corvalllst died from heart disease last night, lie 'was well known through the vnllew and fhas been a resident of Corvallis a good many year. This morning SheriirScott received the following dispatch from Shedd: Mrs Carrie Young found dead in bed. Kvidently suicide, liody in charge of the Justice. Send Coroner. U W Davis. Coroner Farrtll was sent to investigate the matter, and had not returned at press time. Ihocase is alxmt like this according to hu ts given to the Uumoi hat : About a year ago Mrs Young secured a divorco from her husband, Frank I) Young, then section boss at Coinestock, now in the same position at Oregon City. One child, a girl, now eight years of age, was retained by Mis Young, and tho girl has since lieeu livinu most of the time with Mrs Young's parents, Mr and Mrs A N Cooper, a few milcB from Khedd, Mr Young giving her an allowance. .Mrs Young has been in the dressmaking busi ness in Shedil, and also kept boarders. It is cluimed by some that Mr Young had persecuted her lately, making her h!e miserable: but this isdisnuted by others. She evidently contemplated suicide, for sue recently tout a gentleman, now in Albany, that she had rather die than live. Mrs Young wasahout thirty years oi age, arm was well likeu in hliedd. Hero is an interesting fact. A few years ago five Loan companies held mort gages on Linn county farms amounting to about $!l(H),0(IU. Now they only carry about if HKI.IiOO in this county. That certainly makes it look as if our farmers were improving in circumstances. The excitement over tho bridge is small compared to what it promised to be over the Hantiam mines within a year. There is a high gold bridge in these mines for Albany that will make this the cen ter of attraction for the Northwest coast People will cross over here from all di rections. An inspection of the free gold ore at W F Head's is enough to raise th enthusiasm ol even a mo-snack. Keep your eyes on the Santiam mines. alMI.IL AMI I'KKiiONAL.
