Some people who lived In Walkerville before the fire struck them have arriued here in a wretched state. They say it is impossible to tell how many in habitants escaped alive, hut they fear many died in the wood?, whers they fled for afety. The village had 800 inhabitants, and no one knows where more than half of this number are at present. Rumors of large loss of life at other points come in, but verification is im possible.
